I didn't have much trouble picking up women when I had a crusty viking beard but my results have improved considerably since shaving.

It's fricking gross. I'm pretty selective about guys to begin with... beard is a turnoff.
Short goatee is about the only acceptable facial hair that's getting a shot with me.
