FYI, it is always worth filing a Proof of Claim.

Congrats, you sound like you are actually going to get something from a bankruptcy proceeding.

Congrats on your small share of someone's bankruptcy?

You did well then.

I have someone suing an S Corp of mine that I dissolved a few years ago and my attorney asked me why I am even paying him.

Not like they can get anything from me personally out of it.

-30% attorney's fee
-$250/hour for 187.5 billable hours

= -10% of what was owed

congrats

I have been fortunate in legal dealings over the years. I have always received excellent counsel.

I'm not a fan of suing anyone, and in fact would prefer to avoid the situation entirely.

Pay more than this:

$250/hour

to avoid this:

187.5 billable hours

I have been using this guy for 14 years now. He is always brutally honest with me and I appreciate that.

That being said, I am still paying him to rep me and we are going to the deposition next week to hopefully get it dropped.

Nothing I write in this thread should be construed as legal advice or as forming an attorney-client relationship.

Phew, thank goodness I got that out of the way.

You typically don't get a contingency fee if you're also billing hourly, particularly a contingency fee of 30%. Ignorance: why lawyers are hated so much in America.
