Yep, browse through that Stolen Valor facebook and you'll see plenty of sad/funny pictures & videos.
Some use it to get free stuff, some use it to get attention and praise from people, etc. It is against the law to wear the uniform that doesn't belong to you and gain something from it.

Idk about wearing uniforms but SCOTUS struck down a law that made it illegal to claim metals that you were never actually awarded for violation of the First Amendment.

Why do the military guys go through this "quizzing" and not just say "Sir, I know you're faking it. I'd appreciate next time you're out in public to not imitate our military. The flattery is nice, but not needed."
