Sorry about your situation though

Send them a thank you card. Stay in their good graces if you liked the job.

Now that the dumbest, most anti-American turd ever is leaving the WH, business will boom. You may get hired back.

A Christmas bonus would be a gift. Merit bonuses are given in March/April. Update your notes.

You'll have a lot of people flame you, but I feel for you. The reality is companies don't give two fricks about their employees -- especially large companies. It's all about the bottom line, which is a sad reality. Just remember that when you're working at your next job -- always keep an eye open for new and better opportunities.

Hope you find some work soon and ignore the idiots flaming you

I think I remember learning an important rule about who you work for. Never work for a friend or an acquaintance you think might be a friend. It never works out.

They say stuff, but it's stuff they don't practice in their own business.

That's how liberals work.

any business is going to look out for its self, so you as an employee have to do the same. Its wise to become very valuable to where replacing you is extremely hard. If you have enough value and they replace you, then you go to the competition and you steal customers or what not.

Maybe the mods can sticky this thread next December so you don't have to start a new thread asking why they didn't send you anything.

your firing was for the greater good.

I quit a job in Feb where I never missed plan in 11 years, they sent me my non compete two months later with a cool note...I woulda rather a gift card

Spent the past roughly 7 years working at a small business that gave me annual December bonuses ranging from $5K to $8K (other employees also get bonuses). This year, however, a few key accounts bailed or cut back, including the main one I served. Laid off in October with no severance package. This December I was hoping for at least a grand or two in acknowledgment of time served. No dice: I was emailed a $200 Amazon gift card. Was I shafted? Or is this just par for the course?

Always remember this saying, as it applies in your case:

"Don't tell the world your problems. 20% don't care, and the other 80% are glad you have them."

I worked for a company for 33 years, all I ever got was a Turkey or a Ham. You are complaining about 200.00?

He got let go for performance reasons. Getting a severance in that situation is rare.

"-the web is full of debate on this?"

Yes, Google "bonus after layoff" or some such phrase and it is discussed on sites such as AVVO and law-firm blogs -- to the tune of hundreds of thousands of hits returned by the search engine. Some courts/states have ruled that where a bonus has been regularly paid in the past, there is some expectation of an obligation, at least on a pro-rated basis. But whatever --

Examples:

"First, if the employer has regularly paid the bonus in previous years, there may be an implied contract for the current bonus, unless a specific contract says otherwise. (D.L.S.E. v. Transpacific Transportation Co., 88 Cal.App.3d 823 (1979)."

I mean when you get laid off for losing accounts, it's likely that you cost the company money over the entire year. If you want a prorated share of the value you brought to the company, you're more likely to get an invoice than a bonus.
