JBE was willing to blow the entire thing up over the design of the frontage road.

Either pure incompetence OR someone wasn’t having their pockets lined enough and they were going to use whatever they could to block it.

Jeff Landry’s appointee looks to have cleaned that shite up quickly.

quote:

Louisiana’s Department of Transportation and Development is apparently now willing to look at options for the configuration of the new frontage road and access points required by Buc-ee’s as part of the travel center’s coming to Ruston.

That change of heart could get the long-awaited project moving.

“I feel 100% better,” Mayor Ronny Walker said Monday.

Walker, along with representatives of the Lincoln Parish Police Jury and a long-range study group that calls itself Empower Lincoln 20, met Friday in Baton Rouge with newly appointed DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue and other transportation officials.

“We had a really, really good deep dive into all of it,” Walker said.

The project had been stymied for months because previous DOTD higher- ups wouldn’t budge from how they thought the road should be designed. But with the change of department leadership under Gov. Jeff Landry, the posture has softened.

“Before, they were stuck on ‘this is the way it’s got to be and that’s it,’” Walker said.

The city and DOTD are still negotiating on the final design.

Buc’ees plans to build on acreage located on the north side of I-20 adjacent to Tarbutton Road.

Landry needs to lobby for one in the greater BR area.

You have I-10 and I-12 as prime candidates. Surely there's somewhere for it

When you look at the tax abatements
No one is getting paid on this
Buccees is charging sales tax then not paying it
to city and parish??

I doubt JBE gave a flip about a frontage road
but I suppose you always have to be a victim

Simply embarrassing it's not on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain - with all the available sites and intersection of 3 Interstates nearby.

I thought it was supposed to be at I12 and Millerville but then that went 6feet under (almost literally) about the time the beav had to make a decision.

JBE gave a flip about kids being mandated to take an experimental shot. So we are to assume he doesn’t care about a frontage road. Mmmmmk. JBE was and always has been a joke.

They scratched the BR location back in 2017

I think it is obvious, to anyone who understands how Louisiana politics operates, what happened.

They tried to do the same thing in Ruston but the scumbags termed out. JBE isn’t directly responsible but he is responsible for the incompetent or likely corrupt state officials who were responsible.

Truth is: this is a pretty good sign Landry or a related PAC got a nice contribution.

You sure about that? I could be wrong, but my understanding from someone I spoke with with the city was that they were waiving the property taxes for a designated amount of time (FY23 tax on the property was sub $1k) so that they can build it and get it established before paying those taxes, but they would still have to pay sales tax. "Not paying taxes" sounds bad, but the city/parish losing less than a grand for a year or so before it opens and brings in other businesses wanting to get a piece of the traffic it will drive is a no brainer.

I thought I read somewhere that their goal is to have a location every 100-150 miles along I-10. They have one at Baldwin Beach Express. They are putting one at the Menge exit near Gulfport. Working your way west, the next would be Baton Rouge/Denham/Walker (maybe even Hammond since you have I-55 and I-12) then Lake Charles as the next one that is open is in Baytown TX. That would make them all 100-150 miles apart.

I could be wrong though.

I was told that Bucees was too trashy for South Louisiana, after they selected Ruston first.

Why are they building these mega gas stations?

Aren't we all suppose to be driving electric cars in 5-10 years.

I understand your sarcasm here but the Buc-ees in Baytown has a whole bunch of Tesla chargers in one corner of its parking lot.

It’s a fact. State was trying t make Buccees pay for upgrades up and down Millerville including beautification and greenspace. Then the 16 flood happened and Buccees said we’re done. That’s the truth.

If you think Buc-ees won't be embracing charging stations, you are blind. People will stop and charge, shop for a bit, eat, then be on their way.
