Krewe of Comus...How do you join? Who are the members?

Always find the Krewe of Comus interesting in the Mardi Gras tradition. Almost feels like a secret society.
Does anyone know anything about them? How do you join? Who are the members? Is it just a bunch of hoity toity high society types? Can find much about them online but figure some OT folks might have some good info

I've never been in Comus, but know a bunch of members. Some who are really good and normal dudes and some who are so snobby it's almost an act. Think Winthorp in Trading Places snobby.

Any of these high society krewes, the kids always go to ACC schools. UVA, UNC and the like, not quite smart enough for Ivy league, but think they are above schools like LSU. Always find that funny.

ones I knew typically went to smaller liberal arts schools like Milsaps, Samford, Sewanee, Rhodes, or William
7 Lee.
