Overpopulation is not a myth...with increasingly better healthcare (well at least until obamacare) it's not that far fetched.

As crazy as that place looks, they're probably happier than most other Chinese people.

How haven't we heard more about this place and/or studied it? Maybe people have and I'm not aware of it, but I've never heard of it. That's the best no government, no rules, anarchist social experiment, but not an experiment at all. It's real life.

I wonder how bad crime is there, and if they've set up any kind of rule system or heirarchy. How is life with 0 government?

The city was demolished by the Hong Kong government in 1993-1994. That's why we havent heard much about it.

I would assume part of the draw for families to squat there is due to lack of income or making the most of the small amount of income they have. Either way it's not a place I would ever want to live of my own accord.

Over there the choices were to live under one of the most repressive governments in the world or live in a shitty place with no rules.

SO basically people can do what they want. I like it. Now I know this would not be able to work in the states because this is what would be called the ghetto here.

If anything Detroit's the opposite of that. Less people over spread out area with plenty of deserted houses.

That looks like an awesome setting for a Jackie Chan movie

I think there actually was a Jackie chan movie filmed there. I'll have to check the Wikipedia.

That looks miserable, I wonder what's keeping people from getting out of there. Even if I had absolutely no where else to go I'd take my chances leaving over staying there.

The city doesn't exist anymore. It was destroyed in the early 90s.
