Kitchen Remodel Question

The wife and I are beginning to plan a kitchen remodel. Looking at stainless appliances and they come in sets or sold individually. I am leaning to breaking it up and buying different appliances from different brands depending on quality/ratings. This in not a "forever" home so resale value is a consideration. Do home buyers view buying a matching set as a better option or do buyers even care as long as they are all stainless and of reasonable quality?

As long as they look good together, it shouldn't be much of an issue. The house I just bought had all matching appliances, but they took the fridge. The one we had matched perfectly as far as color, but is a different brand. Doesn't really bother me.

Seriously?
I can't imagine anyone caring.

make them match, mix matching makes me think something went wrong

I've looked at a bunch of sets and some parts of the set will review well and there is always a dog in the group. "Fridge is great but dishwasher sucks", stuff like that. Just figured that it would be preferred to have all good stuff rather than brand name.

We did a kitchen remodel about 5 years ago. We matched everything, only because I'm a little OCD

If I were a buyer I would not care if they matched or not. I would probably ask, however, when they were bought, and if you seemed like a dumbass I’d ask if you installed them yourself.

We just finished a kitchen remodel on our home that flooded in Harvey in Houston. We bought all KitchenAid stuff since we got a discount buying all the same brand. We sold that house 2 months ago and one of the things the buyers mentioned was that they liked having all the same appliances. We bought a house in North LA that was also flooded previously and had a brand new kitchen remodel as well. Those sellers went back with all GE Elite appliances. I like having all the same brand. Looks cleaner.

Anal retentive turds will care. Most normal folks won't.

The answer is it really depends on your layout. For instance, our microwave is above the wall oven. They obviously need to match. But the dishwasher is on the back side of the island and the fridge is across the kitchen so those really don’t need to be the same brand (they are in our house just because of pricing/preference)
Our range top, hood vent, and wine fridge are all different though.

How is an OCD person OK with dinged appliances?

Completed a major kitchen construction project as part of a full renovation of a large home I acquired with plans to resell. Given the size of the investment involved, I spoke with a couple of high-end realtors in town about several aspects of the job including this very question. According to them, it does matter to some extent.
Their advice was to stick to a single brand and product line for uniformity of look BUT that you could deviate for a specific item if it is special. For example, my stove-microwave-warming drawer-dishwasher-hood and beverage center are all Pro Line Jenn Aire. But I went with a Hoshizaki ice maker because of the "sonic ice" feature. Also went with a different refrigerator / freezer built in because we wanted a huge pro looking unit which wasn't offered by Jenn Aire.
Key is that the fridge / freezer has the same "pro style" handles and trim that allow it to match with the other appliances. If you just grab brands willy nilly you will have a mix of handles, knobs, displays and it will look like shite. According to the realtors, "spend the money in the kitchen because it sells the house."

Because some buyers will certainly care they all match and he is considering resale value. No buyers will view matching appliances as a downside, its about appealing to the most buyers.

What about the some buyers that would prefer the best appliance they can get instead of matching? Saying one option won't alienate everyone is just false.

Moved from Houston to North LA? I've seen it all now, usually opposite way
