Why should the rental company or unit owner be the one to pay the price? It's CERTAINLY not their fault the renter didn't buy insurance, but you want them to lose the rental income? Typical entitlement mentality. Wanted to save a few bucks on insurance FOR EXACTLY THIS TYPE OF THING, but no, don't buy it and complain when you need it.

If you're so worried about them, how about you personally pony up the cost of the condo?

half of you hindsight frickers operate as if everything is black and white...

Yes they should have bought the insurance, but given the circumstances its ok to operate outside of policies. Throw out just the risk of bad pub, just being a decent human being.

I am sorry but the person who ran to FaceBook is a fricking retard. Think of this, now that you have destroyed their business on social media, they probably won't be able to re-rent the condo and refund your parent's money. arse hat.

So true. They could of went on social media and promoted their rental to see if someone would book it from them, even at half the cost or something so that they would only be out half the money.

Agreed, but everyone on SM is ripping them like they should be required to do it.

They are similar, not always required but certainly recommended.

Who's to say someone that was hoping for a unit to open up for that weekend won't now rent it?

How's about they refund them minus the 7%?

You think this family would have gone viral had the money been refunded? Hundreds of good deeds happen every day, it's the negative ones that grab attention.

Where do they draw the line?

I think if everything you own is wiped out days before the trip is an OK line to draw. It's not like their refunds are going to be public policy, so doing this one time who would have known?

Now that its become a public matter though you've probably opened yourself up

Something tells me the lynch mob posting on Facebook would not be happy with this.

GTFO with that nonsense.

Yeh b/c no one that was flooded out will continue on with their plans for labor day. I bet tons of people affected have plans to go to the beach or Green Bay...so you are saying right now all of them should be entitled to refunds for plane tix, hotel reservations, game tickets etc?

Sure, but people take away the "option" of being a good human being when the response to someone not being unnecessarily generous is to ensure they're crushed via social media.

I have no issue with that. This was a very stupid business decision made by the rental company. Anyone with half a brain could have figured out how this would end up.

Again, this is probably not within the authority of the rental company.
