Let me guess, your nephew has a crappy travel ball name or a regular name with a made up spelling.

To each his own. But, every time I hear it, it certainly throws me for a loop. I could never do that to my parents, though, regardless of whether they would permit it.

Our family is so large if you say mom or dad at a family function everyone turns around. So to say a first name instead is pretty common.

It is pretty common with aunts/uncles and nieces/nephews too due to all working in family businesses.

I don't see Phil Roberson standing for that kind of garbage.

Wraps me around the axle.

My stepdaughter tried that phase with her mom and I went into 1SG mode.

Yet 99.9% of large families manage.

The parents are the ones allowing it.

Since I was a kid I knew a family like this. Seemed really weird when we were young that they called their dad by his first name. Now that they’re in their 40s it doesn’t seem so weird. My understanding is he wanted them to call him by his name and not dad.

I agree. The mom probably needs to be spanked.

My 5 year old does it. I don’t care. That’s the purpose of names.
