No, he got pulled over for yelling "frick the police" the cops were going to pull him over regardless, but used the failure to maintain as probable cause.
Yeah I know, but he was already in the process of pursuit him before the "failure to maintain". The cop obviously can't use "yelling frick the police" as probable cause.

The kid was apologetic and everything and the officer just continued to melt as he went on. Eventually pulled all the kids out of the car and said he's show them how much of an a-hole the police could be by bringing the whole group to jail if he found even a single marijuana seed.
"tell me or you are going to jail"
frick that guy. What a douche.

exactly, but my point was, they were going to get pulled over regardless. Even if the jeep never touched the line or anything else.

Damn, I'm gonna get blasted here, but if that were MY son, I'd be happy the cop taught him a lesson that apparently didn't sink in when I tried to give it... Do I think he went a little overboard? Yes, he could have handled it better.. but with his prior record and the unlawful search, his termination was justified IMO

I get what you mean, but what kind of lesson is the cop teaching him with that behavior? All the officer did was affirm the distrust that those 4 kids already had for the police. Those kids think the police will frick you up and ruin your life if they want to, and the cop basically proved that with his actions.
If you want to change his opinion, lead by example.

I would be all good with the cop pulling the intimidation tactic to get the point across. But in a professional way, and without illegal searches, and illegal stops.

I'm all against cops using the threat of taking my freedom away by putting me in jail with Ty-fricking-Rone for nothing.
But,that's just me.

Kracka and Slacka , what I meant was I think his message to the teenager was a good one, he just went about it the complete wrong way. Hence, why I said his firing was justified when coupled with his priors
Sometimes kids will listen to other people in authority before they will listen to their parents or guardians
ETA: if a cop pulled over my young son for yelling frick THE POLICE and just relayed the message that the cop was trying to give, and did it in a professional manner without giving my son the chance to fight him, I don't think I'd have a problem.. after all, it was a stupid thing for the kid to do just to look cool in front of his black friends (I'm assuming)

You are a fool if you teach unconditional respect for authority. Respect is earned not given

Just curious, how many kids do you have?

I am also against a dressing down someone like he is Avon Barksdale simply because they know that they cannot do anything.
The dude got in his face, threatens arrest and offered the kid to man-up asking for a fight. At that point, he isn't a police officer. He is a bully with a badge and a gun.
I agree that kid needs to learn a lesson but that cop wasn't the police officer to do it. His partner at the end provides a much better example with "we are threatened everyday" speech.

Now this I agree with
And this too

Seems like if the second cop would have been the first one to do it, this wouldn't even be in the news

huh. It's almost like that's part of the description for the job they voluntarily took. Also you would think they would be better evaluators of actual threats to go after and not wasting taxpayer money on ego boosting.

After watching the actual video, the cop made his point and could have just sorta jerked the kid around a little and been done with it. But he just kept going on and on. I'd have fired him too if I was the chief.. Nobody needs one of their officers just going on and on like this on video. The kid was being a dumbass and deserved some of the bullshite but not as much as this dick cop was dishing out.
After the cop started messing around and laughing about playing basketball with the other 3 kids, he could have just let it go. But something tells me the way he knew the kid's step dad, there's more to the story.
No way that cops should have been fired for just what was on the video though.

You can't leave that cop on the streets after that video surfaces. He's going to be a liability for investigations going forward. If he's require to testify about anything, this kind of shite will be a huge thorn in the department's side.

In college at Ole Miss, where the cops are notoriously gestapo-ish, I was pulled over for something a passenger said in my car as we drove by the police station.
In fact, it was the poster Ed Osteen.
He was telling us a story that had nothing to do with police or law enforcement that had the word "pig" in it. We were stopped at a stop sign next to the police station with all the windows down due to great weather. Cops were hanging out by their cars in the parking lot.
They faintly heard the word "pig" and 3 of them scrambled to 3 cop cars and chased me down and stopped me.
We all had to get out of the car with our hands up.
It wasn't until we all separately told the same story to them that they believed us and let us go. frick the police.
