Or do you think that maybe, somehow, even the experts at dealing with Ebola don't know everything about it yet?
I think that the situation in Dallas is unique and an unlikely scenario to repeat in the US. The initial treatment of Thomas Eric Duncan was an under-reaction by the medical staff in not only misdiagnosing him a couple days before he was bought back, but by also not being safe while treating him for 2-3 days. Kaci Hickox's situation is the polar opposite where everyone is overreacting to a situation. There is a perfectly safe middle ground that doesn't trample someone's rights while keeping everyone safe. Last week was not the first time people entered the US after treating ebola patients.

Yeah. I think there should be a requirement to meet a high legal standard before they are able to hold someone against their will for 21 days. I hope this does go to court and both sides present evidence so that a judge can determine whether such a threshold has been met. Giving state officials the power for a 21 day hold without due process makes me very uncomfortable.
I completely agree with this. I am very uncomfortable with allowing the government to just shove you in a hospital for 21 days.

Nope, it's 70% now.
The WHO changed it again. It's almost as if, they don't know a whole lot about it...

So you would have no qualms about having sex with Kaci if she showed up to your door butt naked tonight?
She is ugly. I wouldn't have sex with her but I would feel fine seating next to her on a plane or bus.

Are you sure? I read it as 70% of patients ARE dying. Not 70% WILL die.
It's almost like they thought they knew something about Ebola but are finding out they were wrong about it.

That's a big increase over the previous estimates of a 50 percent fatality rate.

You are like Rummy in a hurricane thread. Every time I come in one of these to liven things up, there you are! Take a walk. Bake a cake. Treat a leper. Anything but obsess over some damn Ebola.

If she's Ebola free, why is she being quarantined?

It's all cool when they lock up a smug bitch. But when they come for you...

I'm just surprised that a health professional would put themselves at high risk treating the Ebola population, and then when the U.S. requires a temporary quarantine, she's like, "oh hell no."
Something isn't adding up here.

quote:Actually, that is correct, believe it or not.
So then you're saying she has a chance to get full on Ebola but she doesn't have the chance of infecting anyone else?

No, it's not. Something like the death rate is going to vary a lot based on things like how many people seek care, what level of care is available in the area, and whether or not the local treatment centers keep good records. This has nothing to do with the fact that a person without symptoms is not contagious and cannot spread the disease. The only reason there's all this talk about quarantining people is because politicians are trying to score points with that segment of the public that choose to be willfully ignorant because they hate science.

Maine officials have said that they would ask Hickox to quarantine herself at home until the passage of 21 days from her last possible contact with an Ebola patient, adding that they would make it involuntary if she resisted.
"Today" show host Matt Lauer on Wednesday asked her whether she planned to follow guidelines and finish that quarantine on November 10.
"I don't plan on sticking to the guidelines," she said. "I remain appalled by these home quarantine policies that have been forced upon me."
omg what a little bitch. waaaaah i cant leave my house for 21 days
someone told me i had to stay at home for 21 days i'd be eating little debbies, playing xbox and catching up on walking dead episodes.

So if she starts vomiting 4 days from now she won't have a chance to infect anybody? That's news to me. If that's the case then people are making way too big of a deal about this Ebola thing.
