Nobody will get 48 mpg on the highway. That's at 55 mph. Not 70 like most interstate speeds

Every difference makes a difference

ETA: My gf drives a prius like it's stolen and gets 50mpg. It's not a bad car, it's roomy and drives nice. It's just ugly and it would take years for the better gas mileage to pay for its self. I wouldn't buy one, but they ain't bad cars.

They are all measured at the same rate though, so whatever they get its still very solid relative to other non-hybrid vehicles besides clean diesel on the highway.

And its better than clean diesel off the highway.

But people who drive them have no dignity, right? Why is everyone so damn insecure .

I am getting a subaru outback, fwiw, so its not like I'm grabbing a hybrid. I just don't care when others do.

It's better than the diesel in surface street traffic, but not really a better value. Diesel also performs much better than the stated highway mileage rates. Plus you aren't worrying about battery life, etc. Still a lot of maintenance costs on the TDI that I have though.

Why are you assuming I have an issue with small cars. I never stated that once. My issue is with people claiming Eco friendly when in fact they aren't. Good gas mileage doesn't equal Eco friendly

Its not small cars, its electric cars. You said they are all retarded.

then you went into hybrid cars, assuming all people drive them for Eco-friendly reasons instead of gas money saving reasons:

Don't get me started on Prius owners. Your car may be economically efficient but it is by no means Eco friendly. Chaps my arse

I mean, in a way, the pure electric cars are a very small market. I think the Tesla gets like 250 miles per charge. If that was my only vehicle, I make the trip from Houston to Louisiana without stopping for a charge. Now a 5 1/2 hour drive is that plus whatever amount of time it takes to re-charge a car. So it is kind of stupid to limit yourself with a purely electric car. Unless you can afford it as a commuter, or you absolutely have no expectation to ever take a road trip of any kind.

Or you have another family car and a charging station at the office?

250 miles per charge is pretty fricking awesome.

I'm not saying it isn't an impressive milestone of engineering. But it's not like a single person can go buy one of these as their only vehicle with the current technology. That's all I'm saying. You would have to have another vehicle or an alternative plan.

Fair.

Which brings us full circle to the OP. Who cares what kind of car other people drive?

This thread still going?

I was laughing that fool was drafting because he was probably worried he would run out of juice before he makes it home.
