Crofton. If you live above the 95/495 split you will have an awful commute every day.

I would do everything in your power to avoid anything that will require you to take 495/beltway.

the area around Ft. Meade is pretty sketchy, although if i recall correctly Laurel, Md. was ok.

Ooof...I'd say Silver Spring is your best best, but if you want to live in DC, Capitol Hill.
