You can't make this shite up.
You can't make this shite up.

There are more than 55,000 junior doctors in England, around a third of all medical staff. Doctors who belong to the trade union British Medical Association (BMA) have been in a long-running dispute with the government over planned changes to their contracts, which would mean an extension of their standard working hours to include evenings and Saturdays.
At the moment, any hours worked between 7pm and 7am, or at any time over the weekend, are classed as antisocial and are consequently paid more. The contract is being changed to make basic hours (and pay) last from 7am to 10pm, and 7am to 7pm on Saturdays, as part of a government manifesto pledge to create a "seven-day National Health Service."

if they don't like the conditions, they can strike. You cant force people to work. Let's see who gives in first.

Sounds like they are getting fricked out of overtime pay. What can't I make up?

I agree, I'm just more shocked at how big of some pussies they are in UK. Everyone in the world thinks our doctors and medical workers are overpaid, yet hours worked trump any competitor.
Do I think OT should exist? Sure but most doctors in US work on SALARY!

Good for them. The impact on a physicians family time should be rewarded by extra pay. How many of you get to eat dinner with your family and tuck your children in? They miss soccer games, recitals and Christmas morning...pay them.

Y'all are missing the point entirely....this is a socialism gone wrong experiment.

Not yet. The doctors are still bargaining and can strike is they want. When the government forces them to work these hours at gunpoint then you can say it's socialism gone wrong.

I need to move to England. Apparently people only die between 7am and 7pm Monday thru Friday.

Because they pay their doctors by the hour.

Wow I'd love to get paid "overtime" as a physician. What is overtime?

I do not know any doctor who works per hour. Maybe residents that are moonlighting, but that is about it.

Most per diems are hourly.

Three of those should also be paid more for what they do. I will let you figure our which three.

You have to pay doctors to be antisocial over there?
Mine does it for free.

We see this happening in other countries yet we are going to walk right into the same mess instead of using it as a cautionary tale.

This ^ is why I do NOT bitch about physicians in the USA getting paid well. Even when not on call they still get calls at all times of the day/night, 24/7/365. And while they went into the profession knowing this, it still goes on their entire careers and wears them out in every way.
The only thing I bitch about regarding physician pay is when THEY bitch and moan about being "broke" from their Summer vacation home because their Winter one is being renovated and the matching his and her Ferrari's are in the shop for maintenance and the Yacht captain is on vacay.
Socialized Med areas like the UK, the Dr.'s ain't got the bling out of the gate so if they hold out for more, either pay it or start studying on treating yourself.
