Jefferson Parish officials are indeed worried about their future tax base.

Jefferson also must contend with its image as a suburban parish competing with the metropolitan vibrancy of neighboring New Orleans. It's not an easy position when millennials are known for wanting to be in the middle of walkable, busy cities rather than quiet suburbs.

"My parent's generation, they all wanted a single-family home. They wanted to drive to their stores," Lee-Sheng said. That's not the case anymore, she said, adding "we've got to change with the times."

They're worried that old rich white people wont want to live there anymore?

Millennials are fricking dumb.

Good luck raising a family with 2 kids in a efficiency condo in downtown new Orleans away from any school districts or children's activities. Dipshit.

Good luck putting your kids through school in new Orleans while you work part time at a coffee shop and your wife volunteers at the SPCA.
Most millennials parents didn't want a single family home in the suburbs unitll they grew up and had a family.

I hate the anointed speakers for and the stigma around my generation so much.

Should I be triggered?

jefferson parish's housing stock is old and dated 6070s. This isn't the type of housing stock that is of historical nature so they aren't renovated like what you are seeing in Orleans.

Yes. They have homes and land for sale. I don't think there is a housing crisis in Jefferson Parish

I really think there's a phenomenon going on around the country. Old neighborhoods are being rediscovered, and post-WWII cookie cutter suburbs are being abandoned or handed down the food chain.

One of two things will happen in 25 years. Either young families will buy the homes in Jefferson Parish after the old folks die off and keep the area vibrant, or the poors will move in.

Ya New Orleans is hodge podge (go figure) walkable like around a Freret and Magazine etc.

But I guess when you are comparing it to Jefferson it looks like a coffee shop is in your kitchen.

Very true. But I'll add this, I'd never not own a car in NOLA, so it may as well be just as unwalkable as JP. Just my opinion of course.
