If you are paying 100k for a SUV, you are extremely unintelligent

Nobody matches Toyota/Lexus as a company. Subaru is similar to Honda now. Mazda is the Japanese company that has made the biggest jump in the last decade. They are now better than Toyota/Lexus. Brand reliability doesn't mean every car in the lineup is good though, you have to research the individual models.

They are as safe as anything ever put on the road. Toyotas are not, and I'd rather pay for head gaskets than for emergency colostomy bag surgery.

ETA: Subaru also does a much better job of keeping their dealers in line. I've never felt like I was walking into a snake pit like I do with Honda or Chevrolet, for example.

I drove one on a recent work trip. They are fantastic. This year I’ve driven brand new Tahoe, Expedition, Yukon, Armada. And by far the Wagoneer is the best of the lot. The Yukon was a distant 2nd. I wouldn’t think twice if I needed a full size vehicle.

Somehow people will buy them.
I remember when 36 to 48 months was a long time to finance a vehicle.
Then they went to 5 yrs, 6yrs, leasing options, and 3 yrs plus a balloon payment.

If there is a demand someone will buy them.

I not a big Chrysler or Jeep fan as my perception of their products is low.
It comes from my wife having a 1980's Jeep Cherokee and that thing was in the shop all the time.

Now my father in law owned a 1980's Jeep J-10 truck.
It was horrible on gas, it was a great farm truck.

I guess that 100k+ sticker price for a jeep product wasn't a good idea.

They aren't all $100k

The regular Wagoneer starts at $62k for the base model. The most expensive is the Grand Wagoneer L Series III that can be optioned up to $121k but I doubt they've actually made all that many of those.

I tend to trust your insight on cars. What makes you say this?

When the fact that it’s a Chrysler product is combined with the fact that a TOL Lexus can be had for around the same money, then no wonder.

Well, you shouldn't trust everything I type! I meant to type Honda which is the company Mazda has jumped in reliability.

Two other things stick out in the by manufacturer reliability in the last couple of years, BMW has jumped up into Japanese car range, quote from Consumer Reports:

quote:

Toyota, Lexus, and BMW are the top three most reliable brands in our annual auto reliability brand rankings, with the German automaker jumping up 10 spots from last year to join the two reliability stalwarts on the podium.
*

The saddest trend is Mercedes is down in the basement with Jeep, VW and GMC. Some of us are old enough to remember when Mercedes built to a standard, not to a price point.

* IMO Consumer Reports is the best source for the least biased reliability information along with following a brand or model dedicated forum. The latter takes much more time and isn't for everyone and I have had lots of heartburn as a result of seeing someone with an engine in pieces when I own that car.

Only if they are financing it, generally speaking.. if they are paying cash, then they probbaly just have way more money than you have, or more than you can ever conceive of having .

My wife has a Wagoneer Series II. It was about $70K. The Grand Wagoneer is over $100K. I gotta be honest, it’s the best road trip car I’ve ever driven and that includes Escalade and Navigator. I was about to pay it off but decided not to.

I financed a small portion to get a rebate. It’s 2.9%. I’m getting 5% at Morgan Stanley so it really doesn’t make sense to do so. Now I wish I would have financed the whole thing.

:it’s like the corvette dorks that think they are driving a sports car"

What qualifies as a sports car that is faster in the same price category?

"150,000 results (0.28 seconds)
The C8 Z06 recorded a time of 2:38.6 seconds around the 4.1-mile Virginia International Raceway. This made the Corvette the fastest vehicle tested in 2023, and the fastest naturally aspirated vehicle and fastest in its price category in Lightning Lap history. It was also the fifth-fastest overall.Feb 22, 2023"
