Thinking about an early summer trip to Wyoming. Where should I stay? Balling on a budget, so probably going to skip the Four Seasons.

What kind of budget? I've stayed at the American Alpine Club. $25/night (less if you're an AAC member). Bunkhouse accomodations with communal bathroom. Spartan, but you don't want to be spending much time indoors anyway. There are some other hostels around town, too.

I went backpacking there this past August and stayed with my friends at the Hostel in Teton Village. No-frills accommodations for four twin beds but it was pretty inexpensive. I had no problems there, just realize that it is a hostel, not a full-service ski resort hotel.

It is a short walk to all the facilities (some much nicer ones) in that particular ski resort area. We woke up in the morning and walked right out the door to our trailhead for the hike up to the top of the mountain, and took the tram back down. Ate dinner at a pretty nice restaurant right there.

Depends on if it's just u going, and what u are there for. U could always just camp. If u want to stay in town for cheap, u can do a crummy motel. Stayed in one this past summer when I was there. It was only for one night before I caught my flight back home the next morning. Hiked and camped the rest of the week in Wind River Canyon.

I would stay in the park itself at Jenny Lake Lodge, then. But you'd better get your reservations in now.

ETA, I just looked and it's about twice your budget, sorry about that

There are some other acccomodations inside the park that are more in line LINK

Jackson itself is just a tourist town. It's nice enough, with art galleries and such, but it's a town. You don't want to go all the way to Wyoming and spend your vacation looking at cars driving up and down the street. Head to the park and spend most of your time there.

That's a bit different, you don't want the Hostel then. A room for four was $120 for us.

We were there not too long ago and stayed at The Teton Mountain Lodge and loved it. I've been to Jackson alot, but always stayed with my daughter who lived there for about 4 years. Teton Mountain Lodge has some specials right now. LINK

Hotel Terra is also very nice. Both of these are in Teton Village and give you really easy access to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort if you plan to ski.

You can also find some condos on VRBO.

edit: Just realized you are looking at summer. If you call Teton Mountain Lodge ask them if they have any summer specials now. They might give you 20% off for booking early.

I worked there this summer. If you go through the Tetons and the south entrance or the east entrance, yes. Come thru west, which is how you would to get from Jackson, and you'll miss buffalo traffic 95% of the time that you get on the northeast and east entrances. Depending on where you stay, west is only 40 min from canyon, 20 from old faithful and an hour to mammoth. If you go late at night (after 7) everyone is off the roads anyways and you can drive in perfectly. Also if you're cheap, after 10 the west entrance is the only one that checks your pass.
