You just gotta have your records from way back when. Now my wife can't gripe at me for keeping papers that are nearly 20 years old in a banker's box. Keeping those records from that far back just saved me $525.

Don't be a hater.

I'm just showing how ridiculous it is and what normal citizens have to do to clear their names. I'm not bragging. I'm actually being sarcastic.

My brother got his canceled but it was because Sterling Jeep in Opelousas sat on his paperwork for well over a month when he traded a truck in

frick Sterling and Robert Cook by the way, they wouldn't even return a call regarding their mistake.

I had to explain this to a Texas cop last week, why my DL is still LA cuz I have a block on it from LA OMV from a truck I totaled in 99...he gave me a break, said he knew all about it.

Its a LA money grab.

Yes, Texas in inundated with calls for help on paperwork. Texas purges their records after 10 years. My insurance company purged their records on anything prior to 2001. My issue was in 1998. There was no way I could have gotten help from anyone other than keeping those records myself. I'm glad I did. Now I'm thinking those boxes aren't taking up so much room in the attic. They just earned $525 worth of a couple years reprieve before going to the incinerator.

If Vitter would have promised to cancel these outstanding debts as part of his campaign he would have won by 20 points.

dmv is full of shady assholes. I paid off $525 for a plate that I didn't turn in. Since I paid for that plate and it is a low number Saints plate I tried to get it put on my truck after my truck plate was about to expire. I go to my local transfer place and they tell me the DMV has no record of my payment. I call the BR office and they tell me that they have record of the payment, just the local DMV didn't take the flag off. So I possibly could have gotten my license suspended and thrown in jail all because some a-hole didn't remove a flag. The rub is, the lady in BR couldn't remove it from her computer, I have to go into the local DMV again, wait two hours to see someone and then show them my receipt that I paid and then they will remove the flag. Such bullshite. Had I not caught this now, I'm sure I would have gotten a letter in a decade or so demanding the money I already paid.

I keep my records of payment to government entities, I don't keep purchase records long if at all.

What gets me is the fact that they are going back to pre-Katrina records, that ALOT of people no longer have even if they had saved all that shite from 98-99, only to lose it in 2005.

You can't dispute it, so you must pay.

Really, LA?

so, so sad.

The really sad thing was, the Feds were ready to support me because it crossed state lines.

I had called the Federal Trade Commission and they were very interested in the attempt to recover a debt that was over 10 years old. They led me through all the steps of disputing the debt and told me if La tries to collect the debt via debt collection then I needed to get back in touch with them. But of course, "do everything you can first".

It smells of a class action coming for those people affected. It even goes beyond the La defined statute of limitations for debt collection (10 years for written contract).

It's definitely a money grab. And no doubt some people will just pay because they fear big brother...I'm just lucky in the sense I kept my papers.
