Is it actually easy to get to you?

The middle seats have a pass through in between them to get to the rear seats. Haven't tried to get back there myself.

The cargo space is cut in half down to 21 inches with the 3rd row up.

Getting my wife a vehicle today. We have narrowed it down between a 2013 Ford Edge Limited and a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited.

We had the exact same question about these vehicles.

We decided on the explorer, and you're right the 3rd row seating may never be used, but when it's folded down you have so much more "trunk" space than you do with the edge.

It also feels so much bigger in general with only slightly less gas mileage and only a small bit more.

Definitely decided on the explorer.

My wife has a '12 Explorer Limited and it has been a good suv so far. The only people that will fit in the 3rd row comfortably are children. Do not even attempt to put an adult back there. We have 3 children, and in the 2 years weve had it, I think weve used the 3rd row twice. I do like the way the seats fold down 2 different ways

Regular use of the 3rd row will depend largely on access. If you can get captains chairs for the 2nd row, do it. Otherwise, getting to the 3rd is such a pain in the arse you won't use it regularly. We have that problem, and only use it on trips for the most part. Now with 3 kids we are looking for something with capt chairs.

I've owned 2 of the previous models and I wouldn't buy another one with your money

Also depends on the size of the 3rd row. We got one for our vehicle, but it's really only good for 10 yr olds or younger. We rarely use it.

Yeah the 3rd row in our Tahoe is for sure made for kids and not adults. The way they're designed you've not got really any leg room and you're sitting really low. In addition to this, when the 3rd row seats are folded out, you've got virtually zero storage room. For example when we have the 3rd row seat folded out to use, all you can fit behind them is something about the size of the average baseball bag.

So really it's a trade off. The 3rd row is great when you have multiple passengers, as long as their kids. And on top of this, you're giving up almost all your storage. At least that's the case with the Tahoe.

I'm just saying, Explorers are notorious for transmission problems. I unloaded an 09 last year with 50k miles because the transmission was slipping. As far as I know they still use the same transmission

My wife and I had the same dilemma about a year ago............she wanted a new ride and I wanted her to get the explorer..................we drove both and she liked the Edge better as its a little smaller.

We really like the edge................and it has all the features of the explorer except that 3rd row.

Makes sense. You can haul 3, even 4 kids in a Tahoe. Only problem is you you don't have anywhere to haul all the stuff that always comes with them.

You didn't like the gear shift in the middle of the dash on the Pilot?
