Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. 7 And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. 8 Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, 9 male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

If the world flooded with water, where did it come from and where did it go?

The water came into someone's head. So he told the story, and it was handed down over time. That's the closest the water ever got to reality.

Many cultures have a "flood" story passed down through oral tradition. The Hebrew's happens to be Noah.

There is evidence of massive deluges in ancient times in the middle east.

There have been several stories of evidence of a great flood. This link is ABC News and is one of many.

It makes a lot of sense but it kind of scares me. I think many people don't want to accept the flood because they would have to acknowledge God. Thinking God destroyed the world with water must also make you infer that he will do it again except this time with fire. It also forces you to consider a final Judgment day.

Except that we have a new covenant that says that he won't.

There is water bound in magma, so yes...

But not in the way you think.

2 Peter 3

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives

as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

Localized flood in present day Middle East that became folklore and was expanded in the Bible. Worldwide flood never occurred. Noah's ark was probably developed from a farmer who went down the river and saved a few people's sheep from drowning.

In 5000 BC how would one even know if it was the whole world? For Noah, it was the whole world, but that doesn't mean the entire globe.

13 And God said let fluid flow from their vaginas so that man may taste the fruits of my labor and that he may find comfort and warmth in it.
