I would be fine with the Feds taking over policing here for a two years

It's not so much their competence as the fact that there aren't nearly enough of them

People keep saying that but show me other cities that have significantly more cops per capita, and how are things there?

My favorite NOPD thing is the pic of the cop sitting in his cruiser taking a picture of the girl flashing him during Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras where Morial (I think it was him) swore he would have them crack down on girls flashing for beads. To me, that's always exemplified how much they DGAF.

I would link it but I would get smacked with the banhammer :(

The NOPD really needs to be disbanded. They are so understaffed and overwhelmed, its ridiculous. If it is possible, the State Police should take over policing New Orleans. Or at least partner one State Trooper with an NOPD officer to supplement manpower. Landrieu has been a horrible disappointment his second term and the city has moved backwards. Crime is up. Infrastructure is a joke. He has a severe case of misdirected priorities in my honest opinion. He has been watching and listening to too many SJWs.

There is around 1,000 State Troopers for the entire state. No way could they ever pair them with NOPD.

NOPD is so under staffed it's silly. There is no way with the little amount of officers they have that they could possibly do the job effectively

Again, can you cite some cities that have significantly more officers per capita than NOLA?

I can find a ton of cities that have way fewer officers per capita.

An NOPD officer with a qualifying year make close to 50k without OT or paid details.

BRPD has to be pretty bad as well. The officers had some kind of backdoor deals worked out with red cross and fema in the days after katrina.

Yes they have a problem with staffing numbers, yes they could get paid more but in the end nothing will change because of Civil Service. The top personnel, the ones that make the rules and set the standards, all have been there from the time when the PD was a corrupt mess. And they will be there for many years to come. You can bring in an outside Chief with big ideas but the bosses below him DGAF and won't implement the changes. It's self perpetuating and will take years to fix.

But they are far from the worst. If for no reason than that they are by and large NOLA people with decent attitudes towards life. I have been to cities where the PD was every bit as fricked up plus the individual officers were mean assholes. NOPD officers can be dicks but if you take the time to talk to them, like at Mardi Gras, you tend to find out they are typical fun loving South LA folks.

Beautiful place but a total crime ridden shithole

This........ I have no reason or will I ever have a reason to go to New Orleans... I used to go all the time in the 80's but not anymre... This city is a joke and an embarrassment to the state, And YES I will say it... after Katrina a lot of those that relocated to B.R. helped turn IT into a shithole........
