My weather Chanel app said there is a flood warning for the Baton Rouge area. It lists the river cresting at 36.5 feet said flood level is 35 feet. To me this sounds off. If I remember correctly back in 2011 when the river really did get to flood levels the river was up to around 55 feet.
OT river experts, what's up with the Mississippi River flooding?

Flood Level for the river differs at different locations. Flood stage is lower the closer one is to the Gulf as the river flows downhill. Also, "Flood Stage" on the Mississippi River is what would be a flood if the levees did not exist. Therefor, the level at which the Mississippi River can actually overflow its levies is significantly above flood stage.

River is unusually high for this time of year, hopefully it goes down before the rise we get from snow melt every year.

If the experts thought there was a reasonable chance of a cataclysmic flood by the Mississippi, wouldn't it be bigger news already?

Weather Channel gonna Weather Channel, no Alpha male has watched more than two consecutive minutes of it.

They're expecting a very high river this flood season. While it's unclear, as of yet, whether they'll have to open the spillways again, it will be something to keep an eye out for. The River's saving grace is that while there was heavy snowfall in the Ohio River Valley, that region avoided much of the snowfall that afflicted places like Boston. Also, the Missouri River Valley did not see that much snow, relatively speaking, this year.

I'm not expecting the "sky to fall" i just figured id get a realistic answer on here as compared to the crap they shovel on the weather Chanel and the 24hr news channels. Not that there isn't a ton of crap in the OT, but there are some real valuable nuggets of info on here if you're willing to sift through all the shite. Kind of like when the dog swallows a ring, you bring out the hose and spray down the turd till you see the ring.

We have a camp at Old River. Water comes up every year but is up early this year due to all the rain lately. 12" of snow melt equal 1" of rain. River is cresting now but future rain may change that. In 2011 the river got up to about 47 on the Baton Rouge scale. It's at 36 now. I personally don't see another 2011 type event this year.

I think your comprehension skills are a bit off, the OT is the turd.

So what you're saying is that we are all golden?

Good to hear.

Well, if there's nothing else, I've got a ten o'clock tee time. Good morning everyone!
