Safety in numbers. Always visit with a group of friends.

I always bring my pals Smith and Wesson and have never had an issue.

Since "safe" has become an extremely subjective word on this board, here is a link to the week of reported crime in the city.

I feel strongly that the cities main tourist area shouldn't be in the situation that it's in with the homeless gutter punks and drug heads. Generally I don't think many of these people are causing the series crime, but there are much more of them now and just overall an eyesore and a pain in the arse.

The hood rats are the ones committing armed robbery and the shootings. Hopefully the gentrification process will keep pushing these cockroaches further away. It's getting to be a further walk from those living in the few sketchy areas of the bywater. That area keeps getting better and the uptrend has even crossed over into the former hood.

Maybe Treme can take another big leap soon. Then the main wildcard left is the little fckers living in the projects nearby.

I find it strange that so few of the Central City gang bangers make it over to the warehouse district. There is a pretty good nightlife in that area now, but I guess it just doesn't appeal to them for some reason. None of "their" type of establishments in that area too I guess.

One of the main reasons the Quarter gets infested with shady arse people is the bus interchange at Canal and Elk. Thugs from far as the East can easily come to the Quarter, get high as frick on Bourbon, rob some drunk tourists, and head back home on the RTA.

The French quarter is proped up by propaganda like L.A. there is promise of a marty gras environment with beads, beers, and titts. Realistically though it's just piss, trash in the streets and people trying to fight you.

Only an idiot would believe there are only two cops in the French quarter
this - was there Sunday 2PM-10PM - at least 5 to 6 cops every block from Canal to St. Peters.

Yeah he's seen too many TV shows.
Much of the French quarter is pretty nice and unique in many good ways.
Hey Ky guy, just so you know, we don't have parades and voodoo ceremonies every day either. LOL

One reason is the mob is no longer in control.....they would clean that place up for "Buisness" purposes.

Not the best of solutions....but just saying.

I've never had someone try to fight me in the French Quarter in my 100s of trips there.

Royal Street and large areas of the quarter are very nice and pleasant to be around. Congrats on going to Bourbon I guess

I saw 2 cops at an intersection the other night and about 50 ft away some black kids were grabbing purses and running. As long you stay inside the strip clubs you're fine.

Shhhiit. That's where the real robberies take place.
