Clearly not, because he's only been retired 7 years, can probably still play some ball, and therefore, if he were, someone would have signed him to a practice squad and held a press conference about it.

It matters because he was an NFL football player for 14 years is in the Hall of Fame and is on prime time television. He's a high profile person and being gay is still taboo for the majority of the world including the United States.
