I'd suggest you live in Bryant or Maumelle.

Maumelle gets a big +1.

Bryant and Benton are a no go for me.. only because of how bad the cops are there.

You don't need to venture NLR very much - Stay in LR and WLR they got everything you need and downtown isn't all that bad. Some pretty good food as well if you know where to look

West LR is a great place to live.

Live in Conway or Bryant, and I guess it would be. LR is just a less crowded BR. If it were BR's size it would have the same exact problems. But there are some really great communities outside town that are good to raise a family. If you've lived in South LA your whole life it will take adjusting.

If I had the choice, LR>BR any day of the week. It's a much better overall experience.

Agreed. I travel to Little Rock for work often and I always enjoy myself around town. It's a lot nicer and cleaner than Baton Rouge. If I was the OP, I would apply for jobs in Northwest AR. It's nicer there than it is in Little Rock.

not if you are a young single dude, but otherwise, yeah, I'd say that's decent living.

I agree with the ones saying LR>BR. I say that as someone who misses Louisiana and all that makes it unique etc.
Of course like any city of any size there are definite no go areas. West Little Rock is the booming area and very nice but getting crowded. Benton/Bryant, Maumelle, and Cabot are where you go to raise the family with good public schools. Little further to Conway/Greenbrier which is nice.

We lived in Sherwood (just north of NLR) and when had kids moved little further north to Cabot. Great schools and close enough. Probably depends where you will have to drive to work.

Thanks for the tips everyone, even though there are definitely some contrasting opinions here.

I'm 28 and not married (not single though), so I'd probably be looking at Little Rock itself rather than the neighboring suburbs. The Hillcrest area looks nicer than most of BR, as does Midtown (both look to have tree lined neighborhoods and a nice selection of houses). I just don't know if I'd get bored quickly, although I can't imagine it being much worse than BR in that regard (outside of LSU football games, which I could still travel back to a few times a year).

There are tons of outdoor activities in Arkansas if you're into that.

Little Rock has a loop

I'd live in LR over Baton Rouge. It's prettier and more scenic. It's still the south so economy, poverty, and poor schools still run wild but I think it's a nicer place to live esp if you like outdoors (hiking, biking, running, fishing, etc)

Don't live south of I-630 unless you want to get shot at. Try to live in west Little Rock if possible; else move to Conway or Maumelle/Bryant.

Little Rock isn't a bad place. Has decent amenities/entertainment/recreation. Like most things, you will get out what you put in.

Just stay away from the hood areas; in case I wasn't clear.

Little Rock is the shittiest, oldest, and most forgotten about feeling state capital in the union.

Easily.

Although I second the notion that you should really take a look at Northwest Arkansas (NWA). With Walmart and other Fortune 500 companies having their headquarters and vendors up here, the local economy is somewhat insulated from overall economy. Better pay/recreation/schools/outdoors up in NWA vs. Little Rock. I've lived in both.

Little rock is a better city but I'd have to pick to live in BR bc of proximity to the gulf.

I've lived in Arkansas for a few years and don't really care what you do; to me it's a lateral move, Little Rock's not an especially big or nice city

The bar scene is a lot weaker if that's your thing and the food isn't as good. I'd argue the scenery is a little bit nicer in Little Rock and some people like experiencing a winter which Louisiana doesn't really have imo (Not every year will be snowy/cold in Little Rock though fyi)

Big thing is stay out of north Little Rock, that and the roads heading towards Memphis are where all of the crime happens

Also it should be fairly obvious but be prepared to see a BUNCH of Uni of Arkansas fans. Since they have no major league sports team in the area and very little minor league sports presence they are stupid crazy about their Razorbacks

Whatever you decide, good luck

Isn't any place a better place to live?

Well maybe Darfur has BR beat for the worst but it's close

It's beautiful as far as the geographical views around or nearby the city. You will however miss the seafood availability. Nightlife is odd but perhaps not worse than BRs post college scene. I mostly missed having a lot of friends and family nearby but thought it'd be worth it for a really good job opportunity (the one I had ended up not being so).
