TruGreen treats my yard 7 times a year. I had a massive weed problem before they started their chem applications. Much better now - usually don't have to start mowing until neighbors have cut theirs 3 - 4 times.

Drank beer and mowed last week. Sprayed weeds yesterday

have clover patches all over. Any recommendations on getting rid of that shite?
Vinegar. It's safer than round up and cheaper.
Only problem is it will lower your soil ph over time so you might have to follow up with lime.

I'm a new home owner so this will be my first season actually having to take care of my own yard. When is the best time to fertilize? Does anyone recommend a good fertilizer? Also any other lawn care tips would be appreciated.

fertilize after you kill the weeds
the time is now to lay down some 2,4 D, then fertilize in March and then again May or June

I had four Mexicans do mine... took them 4 hours. Charged $150.00. But that's in Germantown, TN. They also got on the roof and blew out the gutters and cut the monkey grass back. $150.00. White guys last year got nearly $400 for doing the same thing, minus the gutters, and didn't do it nearly as good. They were riding by in a truck, I was checking the mail a couple days before Christmas. They asked me if I wanted my leafs rake. Hopped out, looked around, said $150.00. Did it the next morning. I think they ended up doing 3/4s of the yards in our neighborhood. Gonna call em back to mulch and trim and what not.
On another note, when's a good time to cut back a crepe myrtle that hasn't been trimmed up in like four years? Just sometime before it starts growing? Or do I need to wait until they get through blooming? I also have a Bradford pear that needs pruning, but I think I'm going to make one pruning cut that is approximately even with the ground. Hate that thing.

I'd say now is a great time to trim your crepe myrtle, but please don't make the mistake of chopping the shite out of it. They are beautiful when you just slightly trim them and let them go.
On another note
Cut that bitch down. I have never in my life seen a tree that attracts lightning like a Bradford pear. I've seen over a dozen get split by lightning, in the same 1/4 mile area, in the same storm. Every time there is an electrical storm near the neighborhood, those bitches get split like a pea soup.

Starting to see some green come through. I'd let it go a bit longer if my a-hole neighbors hadn't mowed theirs twice already.

this thread is for men who do their own lawns.
I plan on aerating pretty soon, then putting out a 15-5-10 or 20-5-10 in a few weeks when it starts to green up.

100% correct, but you may want to put out a POST emergent in March as it starts to green up.

Clover seems bad this year. 4-5 inches tall already. What do I use to get rid of it chemical wise? I've used the various weed and feeds but doesn't seem to do a thing.

Yeah, and there were a shitload of leaves. Going to be a while before we get back to Summer. Had a lot of plants die, including the 2 big arse elephant ears.

That's what I'm thinking. Just prune any crossing branches and kind of "open it up", but not commit Crepe Myrtlecide. I do know that you simply can't kill them. I dug one up one time, and darned if later in the season, a little shoot didn't start coming up where it was. I've got one that keeps getting powdery mildew on it ever single year. Never blooms. Pruned the crap out of it one year. Next year, grows out all nice and pretty... then boom... leaves start turning white... spray some fungicide from Dan West on it... clears it right up. Comes back again the next year. I would dig it up, but it'd probably come back... and it makes a great place on which to put christmas lights... so there's that.

where do all of you guys live? I'm out by New Roads and my pastures and yard are still dead as hammers. I've got some little yellow flowers popping up on the fence lines but the clover- hell even the rye grass- is just barely starting to grow.
