Is it safe to live in a neighborhood with only one entrance/exit?

Is there no law that would limit the number of homes that can be built in a subdivision with only one entrance/exit? I just received an email from UClub Realty where they are building an 11th filing thus even adding more homes to an already overly saturated neighborhood. I would think that there would be some law or development “code” that would require so many entrances/exits per “X” number of homes (or residents). Right now, there is only one exit so can you imagine what would happen if UClub had to evacuate in a hurry? What if there was a river breach…or one of the chemical plants right down the road had a major accident…or maybe another 1000 year flood? The chaos of having all of those people trying to exit out of just one exit onto a major highway would not only be dangerous, but it also shows a poor lack of judgment on the developer and whoever governs residential developments. I can see the safety benefit of only one entrance (cameras and security guards needed at just one entrance) but I am truly surprised that there is not a law or code already in place to protect those that live there if an emergency evacuation is ever needed.

Most subdivisions only have one. Move if you don't like it.

that being said have you been to the lakes neighborhood in BR? Only one entrance/exit and its a bridge. Wtf happens if the supports fail on that thing?

With all of the traffic congestion already present in BR, I don't think you are going to easily evacuate from most neighborhoods in an extreme emergency.

I believe that neighborhoods must have 2 exits. However I know Santa Maria only has one entrance/exit that goes under railroad tracks.

Not sure how they legally get away with it

If it was an emergency you could hop some curbs, ride over the golf course, etc. otherwise just move. You knew what you were getting into moving into a place like that. If there is land people will build.

One entrance sub-divisions/ streets are probably as safe as its going to get as far as outside crime... Its good to know who is coming in and out of your neighborhood especially with plenty of kids there. Also any perps may be deterred knowing there is only one escape route if detected.

No shite.

That being said, the real nice neighborhoods have one traditional entrance and one contractor/subcontractor entrance.

I knew the "just move" argument was going to be stated (multiple times), but I am still surprised there is not a code or law that protects people in this situation. So, we have a code that says the toilet must be 24" from a wall...but we don't have a code that says you cannot continue to build more and more houses without adding another exit? That's mind boggling to me as it is clearly a matter of safety.

There is a second entrance/exit in the works already. It will tie into the Harveston entrance.

UClub does not have this. Again, the developer doesn't give a shite about the people that live there so he continues to allow the only entrance we have to get littered with roofing and framing nails.

Unfortunately he's probably the kind of a-hole that'll run to the next city/parish council meeting and raise hell until they make some new regulations about subdivision size.

I'm dealing with a plethora of assholes just like that in Livingston Parish right now - they want the government to regulate everything. (True limited-government republicans are few and far between.)

Its safe to have one entrance/exit. My preference, however, is to have an option for when I get drunk and want to enter from the rear.

1. Insert money in politicians pocket
2. Ask politician to grease the wheels
3. ?
4. Profit off their corruption
