TD lost a prominent poster to oral cancer in the last 1-2 years.

Will your hyg check for oral cancer and is she trained well enough to know one when she sees it?

He probably has a few but if you never go to the dentist you will never know you have any.

How much would you charge to clean these?

It's rarely genetics that causes tooth decay.

I meant when he was younger. He went then and even had braces.

My parents couldn't afford dental care for us as kids so I never went. So once I had a job with dental insurance I took advantage of it and had to play catch up for a few years cause I had so many cavities from years of no proper dental care. Because of that I stay on top of going when I need to go.

Just had a root canal yesterday in fact. Freaking hate them!

How do you know he doesn't have a cavity if he never goes to the dentist?

He went like 5 years ago only because he was in pain. They took X-rays then....no cavities....he just needed his wisdom teeth pulled. Got them pulled and had one follow up appt after that. Never been back since.

I'm always telling him to go, esp since he has good dental insurance.

Yes.

Supreme Court says Dentists have no right to decide who whitens your teeth.

This has nothing to do with OP's question.

Yes. Source: My wife is a dental hygienist. Although it's just easier to get paid by the Dentist, not a lot of hygienist, who are primarily women, out there willing to go through the hassle of opening up their own practice.

Maybe in a FFS practice not accepting assignment and the dentist wife/hyg/receptionist lapping all that tasty cash at the front desk.

Sound familiar?

The idea is to increase the availability of places to get cleanings done. Forcing people to go to dentists to get cleanings means higher costs and less options. More supply of cleaners=less cost.

I'm thinking about poor people.

The idea of a cleaning is just to get patients in the door so the dentist can check them out for cavities or other oral problems. Seems stupid to send people to a place that can only clean and then hope the hygienist gives them a correct diagnosis and then can either send them on their way or make them go to a dentist after their cleaning and have a procedure done. No patient would want to do that

I hate going to the dentist, too. There isn't enough gas to make me relax with people poking metal objects in my mouth.

So, which states allow hyg to diagnose?

I can think of tons of patients that only want their teeth cleaned, you're naive to think otherwise.

What?

The idea is to prevent people from needing procedures in the first place if they get adequate, thorough cleanings at affordable prices. Getting an annual cleaning greatly reduces risks of cavities and gum issues.

Annual? Shouldn't you be getting cleanings at least twice a year?
