I slapped my 4 y/o when he threw a cup at his mom and then knocked his food off the table. I slapped him and then held my wife back. He hasn't done anything like that since.

Eta: He is 5 now, and yea, did it in the face, I was pissed

Eta2: You meant about someone else's kid. I guess depends, might get your arse sued or arrested. I would threaten to do it, don't think I would on someone else's kid

Sure, why not?

Lil runt wants to act like an animal, quick pimp slap can solve that problem.

Real talk. If my kid is getting bullied by an older kid? If the bully's parents aren't around? I need to know these things ahead of time bc my wife is preg

No. I've had this happen at a playground. Your only safe rational option is to remove your kid from area and tell parent if there. Otherwise just bail.

From a LSU BLAW lecture/rant, my prof once said you can use force to defend your child from another child if they are being assualted.

Yep. Simon's lecture compared stopping a 13 yr old from kicking your 13 yr old's arse in the front yard vs throwing him off your son and kicking him in the ribs while he's trying to get away from you.
In my situation the kid was about 10 and my son 7. He was violently shaking that rope pyramid at Perkins road Park trying to to make my son fall from the fricking top. I freaked and yelled at him. But can't hit a kid that ain't your own. We went to another part of playground.

I've wanted to...
This weekend my kids were playing in the pool. I was sitting in a lounge chair near them. A few other kids joined in, and all was going ok. My girls just turned 5 and were in the shallow end playing/splashing around trying to find one of those toys that you dive under water for. One of my girls splashed an older (6-7 yr old) boy in the face while she tried to get the toy. He splashed her back, and then continued to splash her in the face and saying, "You don't splash me!" I stood up and told him he better cut it out. He glared at me. I stared him down until he went to the other side and hid. His parents were drinking and smoking in the bar area. I have no problem telling kids to cut their crap. I'd expect another parent to do the same if mine were acting up.

I haven't slapped any but I have 2 boys in school and plenty of times I've told other kids I'll come to school and whip their arse if they touch my boys.
Don't know if they believe me, but no issues so far.

Simon's lecture

Simon is still teaching BLAW at LSU? I had him in 1987 and, while an arrogant bastard, he taught me a lot of stuff about torts that is not common sense.

Yep. Take that kid to Smack Donalds and order up a Knuckle Sandwich.

This is really the answer I wanted.

Not hard slap but a medium smack in the face. Enough to teach the bully a lesson but not enough to leave a mark.

The second day of class, some Chinese kid came in who had obviously not read the assigned case studies from that BLaw book that was 3 inches thick. Simon verbally abused the kid so badly in front of everyone that he got up and left class within 10 minutes, never to be seen again. Simon left an impression on all of us to always be prepared to participate.

If it comes to that. I'd check a kid. Go up side his head a lil. If a child acts like a animal you treat it like a animal.

Your own kid sure. If it's my kid you tell me the problem like a man and I'll slap her. You slap her and then we gonna have a problem.

Idt I could slap anyone's elses kids because I know what I'd do if someone else slapped mine. I also don't slap my kid, I whip his arse. I don't like the idea of slapping my kids in the face or head. Idk, it's what my parents did to me and I was a pretty good kid. Def respected my parents

In the face? No.

Back of the head? That's more a gesture than anything else. Basically telling them they're a dumbass.

On the butt? If they're trying to do something dangerous, yes.

I gave an 8-9 year old kid a pretty hefty shove in a pool once as an instinctual reaction because him and his little frick head buddy were fighting and they landed on top of my one year old's floaty and pushed down into the water. He actually reacted by whipping his head around all bowed up until he saw it was an adult that did it and not his friend.

I don't think it's ever appropriate to touch another person's child unless it is in immediate defense of your own, or if you're related and have an understanding with the parents. And of course, the fact that it's a child should be an important factor in how harsh it is.
