The amount of people on disability in this state is staggering. Many are legit, but there are a huge number gaming the system.

I'm not sure on specifics, but someone posted a thread a while ago on the Poli Board showing that in the past 5 or so years, disability recipients, especially for mental disability claims, have increased significantly.

If I wanted to live hand to mouth, I guess I could fake a mental issue.

It just doesn't seem worth it having to scrape by on disability and fake it constantly just to not have to work.

In no way am I disparaging those who actually need the assistance. This is directed to the societal leeches who make it hard for the aforementioned actual disabled people.

Couple that with Medicare, food stamps, section 8 housing, etc. and they are doing pretty good by some standards. The real sickos are the ones who try to get their kids classified as mentally disabled to they can get the monthly check.

90% a white trash issue If you go by the numbers.

I see it too much. This type of welfare is a white problem more than any other in my opinion

The disability payments are in addition to other welfare "benefits". There are several able-bodied sacks of shite out there collecting disability on a monthly basis.

My parents, in the 1980's both progressively became disabled via arthritis and heart issues. Took them years to secure disability, numerous letters from Doctors supporting their needs and all.

How is it so easy for people to start collecting disability, besides lawyers and judges scratching each other's backs?

I'm essentially on disability (medical retirement). I'm not going to complain about the money, but even I was a little surprised at how much it is.

It's sickening. Many of my clients collect disability, often starting when they are young kids. They're perfectly able-bodied and mentally capable of working. I had an uncle whose body was chewed up bc of cancer and he had to hire a lawyer and fight hard to get approved. That was 30 yrs ago. Now anyone with a vague mental issue will get it.

Honestly, it's probably better this way. If those payments stopped, I can't even imagine the resulting carnage that would occur in your average burbs neighborhood to compensate for the lost income.

they had a story on how Old Folks homes are taking in 20-40 year olds, who are on permanent disability.

The main guy was a fatass, who said he had phobias and other mental bullshite. Guy was milking the system with free room and board(disability paying for it) and lives his days on everyones dime.

NPR did an excellent story on this a while back. There was a town in Alabama where like 40% of the population is on SSI, due to mostly one doctor who interprets disabled as not "can he work?", but "can he work in this town?". That town had no economy and few jobs so he submitted them all for disability.

Basically its a lawyer and the client submitting medical documentation, which is easy to build up, to SS. It'll be rejected at first so the claim is appealed to an administrative judge. The judge is impartial. There's really no voice from the government to argue against bc its not supposed to be an adversarial hearing like a court is.

It's really the white trash American dream. Get yourself and your spouse on disability while living in a paid off trailer.

What sucks is that the legit disability people that I've seen (below knee amputation at age 63) gets denied, while the slap dick with back pain at age 40 somehow gets disability.

There is a kid in my gym who I would call "special". Full disability. Squats 500+ & dunks a basketball.
