Definitely wear a suit
I've always thought this was the most asinine thing. It's like you're trying to show off your suit to someone. Doesn't even matter one bit IRL. Yup, I'm gonna walk around in a fricking suit and tie all day for a job that I wear jeans and a t-shirt for.

We don't have companies that I'm interested in coming to our job fairs, but if we did, I'd probably wear what I was gonna wear that day anyway. Not trying to impress anyone because I have a tailored suit in my closet.

It's a sign of respect. Not everyone works at Jiffy Lube like you.

bullshite it doesn't matter. Being professional, and that includes looking the part, matters. If you're interviewing for a job that requires a college degree, a suit is a no brainier.

I never once entertained the idea of having a job where I'd wear jeans and a t-shirt, so there's that. And I actually did wear jeans and work shirts for a few years. But they weren't hiring me for that career. That was just a training period. I was hired based on the ability to move up in to higher positions. Where I am now. If I was interviewing, I'm not hiring the guy just for the job he's applying for. Is he professional enough to be a manager some day. I'm sure that's not every interview, but it certainly is for the field I'm in. You start as an engineer, but doors open in your first 5 years. They are looking for people who will grow quickly. Look like you can fill that role.

Good luck with that.

At LSU, it is basically expected at the on campus interview. To not do it kind of looks like you aren't putting in the effort. Now if you dress really nicely, and you have the qualifications, I'm sure it doesn't disqualify you. But if you have the suit, why not make sure that it isn't something that's going to hold you back. 2nd interview for me was much more casual and the company expressed that to me beforehand.

The will probably wear company polo and slacks. You will be expected to dress 2 levels above that.

It is lame.

That's basically the entire point of a job interview.

I've always thought a tie without a jacket as formal wear looks stupid..unless you've been working all day and have your jacket on a chair or something. But as first impressions just wear a suit.

I never wore a suit to a campus interview and got multiple job offers.

Take it FWIW. I wore a sport coat because it was a rule at LSU to wear a suit.

Okay, I just said it was asinine. I don't go to actual interviews in jorts and a beater, but I definitely don't wear suits. The only time I see it as relevant is when you are applying for a job where you wear a suit every day.

Equally as ignorant as your first post in this thread.

I don't think anyone is saying you won't get offers if you don't wear or don't have a suit. Just saying that it will cause you to possibly stand out regarding on-campus interviews and I don't see how it would ever be taken as a "positive" stand out. May not hurt you enough to take you out of contention or anything. But if there is not negative to it, and certainly no positive reason not to, why wouldn't you just wear one if you have one???

I don't think you're going to understand the point.

I just went through campus interviews a couple months ago and it resulted in me getting a job. I wore a suit. Everyone else who was interviewing wore a suit. You're going to a job interview. Wear a suit.

At the time I wouldn't have worn one if I had it. I was hard headed and thought it was stupid. Otherwise I would have bought one just for the interviews.

I can't imagine a situation where wearing one to a campus interview would hurt you. It's technically a requirement of LSU. However, the "must wear suit to every interview" thing shouldn't be followed as gospel. I had a group interview for an engineer position at a steel mill and two guys wore suits. They were very awkward in a room full of people wearing FRCs.

Meh, I'm in engineering as well, and I'll never feel awkward at an interview while in a suit. Of course if where the interview is taking place requires certain safety apparel, that will be taken into consideration. But outside of that, a suit is never the wrong choice.

suit? Man..I'll wear some nice slacks, a nice button down shirt, a tie and some nice shoes

Then just don't go if you are going to half arse an interview? I mean really, you must not want any of these jobs or care if you do? I wouldn't hire someone that doesn't wear a suit to an interview.
