Is a campus interview still as formal as an office interview?
Posted by VermilionTiger on 4/18/16 at 11:07 am50
Have a campus interview coming up..wanting to know if I should show up as I would if I was entering their office, or dress a little down.
Don't want to show up like these guys:

Are you a student? Just wear a suit. You can't go wrong.

Yes

Wear a suit, but purposely leave your zipper down. It will counteract the formality and leave a nice balance.

Absolutely

Don't think that's a good idea. I'm trying to land this job

I find campus interviews to almost be more formal than reality. Definitely wear a suit. And at least try to make it look like it isn't the very first time you've ever worn one. It's amazing when I went for interviews how many people looked very out of place wearing a suit.

A suit? Man..I'll wear some nice slacks, a nice button down shirt, a tie and some nice shoes

The general rule I was always told was that it was better to overdress than underdress. I always wore a suit during my campus interviews, even with companies like Microsoft which has as relaxed of a dress code as possible.

Good luck!
Also, most interviewers like it when you ask a question at the end. So when they say "do you have any questions" be sure to ask something. It shows interest.
ETA: suit seems to be the general consensus. Go with a suit.

There is no downside to putting your best foot forward. Wear a suit if you have one.

It's kind of goofy I agree. I probably wouldn't show up to my employer in a suit at their office. But it was definitely the common thing to wear a suit at the campus interviews. You'd be in the minority not wearing one. At least 7 years ago.

Go to Stage and drop a couple bucks on slacks and a jacket that goes with it.
Profit?
Profit?

Suit up. I already had one, but bought two more my jr year in school so I could swap them out for multiple interviews. I always wore one to interviews, either on campus or at an office, but I didn't want to be that guy who ends up doing a 2nd or 3rd interview, talking with the same people, and wearing the same suit to all of them. That can be more telling than not wearing one to a campus interview.

Suit up. I've had a few recently and always wore one and never felt out of place. Spend the extra money to get it tailored, it makes a huge difference. What field is this for?

As a guy who often sits on the other end of the table, wear a suit man...

Red long sleeve button down shirt, black pants, black tie, white socks, New Iberia haircut. You'll be in like flint.

I have always believed that expecting college kids and recent grads to wear a suit isn't fair to the less fortunate, first generation college student types.

How hard is it to put a Jos A. Bank suit or two on a credit card?
