Correct.

So, billion means nothing to us, but it means something to them. A million million is a billion. A million million million is trillion, but that is a trillion(?) in ours.

In British English, a billion used to be equivalent to a million million (i.e. 1,000,000,000,000), while in American English it has always equated to a thousand million (i.e. 1,000,000,000).

quote:

Previously in British English (but not in American English), the word "billion" referred exclusively to a million millions (1,000,000,000,000). However, this is no longer as common as earlier, and the word has been used to mean one thousand million (1,000,000,000) for some time.

It should be noted, that outside of old English farts, almost all scientific publications use the "American" version of Billion.
