My wife is in the medical field and said there have been informal discussions on preparing for an increase of opiod overdoses and other drug related issues following the flood.

With Ascension and Livingston parishes being major suppliers of meth and heroin production and distribution, there will be a flood of new and stronger products.

Also the stress of the flood will push people to cope with drugs and alcohol.

It happened with Katrina.
Anyone think that will happen?

I know a bunch of the tweakers must be going bonkers since a bunch of the labs just went under.

Only if you photograph everything thoroughly before you tear it down.

I don't think it will cause people to use more per se, but when they can't get drugs, they may use other shittier stuff instead, or otherwise overdose whenever they finally get heroin again.

Does anyone else thinks it's fishy that heroin made a comeback right after we went into Afghanistan?

Nope, I sure don't.

Google Afghan Poppy Fields and look at Images.

That's as far as I feel like going with this tonight, but I do not think it's a coincidence.

I guess somewhat, but i don't really see it for th most part except for now it's just a shite ton of white kid's making the drive from the suburbs daily to get their fix instead of them taking OxyContin and other pain pills that were taken away.

Heroin was just a prevalent In the city before 9/11 as it is now like I said the only difference is maybe the amount of users looking for it but most of them started with going to dope doctors

Most likely you'll have a bunch of people who are already addicts come in to money and start dropping likes flies.

Pill addiction is real and its a problem that this country is not talking about. Its actually almost becoming an epidemic.

True Story:
My Dentist was one of the first Dentists (right after Katrina) to re-open in Metairie and worked out of BR a couple times week. He said that he was killing it with the all the Gold Teeth. He attributed it to the free FEMA money. So the new Gold Teeth could be Drug use.

As an addiction medicine specialist I would say that you may see some unintentional ODs. Addicts often have ODs when they are shooting up in non familiar places. Physiologically they have a lower tolerance in new surroundings.
