I was back to the husky side in January at 260+, but today I am around 235 with diet adjustments and great reduction in alcohol.

I have to say that it feels amazing considering the better sleep, much less joint pain lifting, and just feeling spry all the way around.

I know moderate daily alcohol intake is "good for you", but damned if my head isn't clearer and inflammation way down.

In short: put the fork AND the beer down.

Meh. Research is all over the place on this. The benefits of abstention probably outweigh the benefits of any amount of drinking, other than the specific benefit of 1 to 2 glasses of red wine on cardiovascular risk profile.

That's the science, baw.

Throw out sodas, fast food and cut down beer you will show much improvements. Good Job!

How tall are you?

6' 2.5"

I'm a larger built fella as well. My expectation is to hit 220-225 and sporting a rigid mid section

Considering I have always had a sensitive GI, it is thanking me as well.

We are around the same height and size. I was up to 235 and down to 220 by cutting out fast food, soda and limit my beer intake. I love food and eat out at a lot of places in NOLA which probably does not help. I feel great though but would love to get down to 200-210 range.

Or, switch to good alcohol and drink it like a man...in a glass, straight, or with a little water (or in the case of tequila, a little fresh lime juice). Lose all the mixers and crap that goes with it.

Big boned huh? Right. You could be 180 and lean.

Still empty calories. I know a lot of "real men" that don't rely on crutches like alcohol.

Artie, I could be 210 and damn lean. Considering I closed out at LSU weighing 302 and benching 500lbs, 210 is even a stretch.

Other than? Wouldn't that be the most prominent benefit, at least after a certain age?

Trade that sixer of Shiner for one neat whiskey at the end of the day. Or invest in a vaporizer, if that's more your speed. People need to unwind - there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm fat, bro. Just messing with you. But imagine a girl coming in here saying she was 5'5 and 160, but had a "heavy build."

Almost missed that part.

Certainly - I didn't want to let "moderate daily" to go by without at least pointing out that 3 beers a day isn't good for you. Probably isn't going to kill you, but that definitely isn't doing you any good - not gross, not net.

Spirits are always going to be a negative, even "moderate". Even white wine is probably a push. The sole supportable beneficial alcohol consumption is 1 to 2 glasses of red wine.

Right now:

AM - Whole grain cereal + almond milk
Noon - Sushi (8pcs nigiri), 6" subway no cheese + baked chips
Snack - pudding cup, fruit, etc.
PM - Grilled fish or chicken breast + vegis

Water for the most part throughout the day.....zero sodas and such.

Does alcohol really slow weight loss down that much?

A lot of calories in alcohol. 150+ in a Sam Adams (beer can vary greatly) 600ish a bottle of wine, 60ish per ounce of spirits plus mixer. Those are ballparks and can vary with alcohol content the biggest variable.

Plus the tendency for most of us to eat poorly when drunk...midnight kitchen raids!

3 bottles of wine or 3 six packs a week equals over 20 pounds of fat in a year unless you take away calories from other areas. Soft drinks are similar.

In the past year, my little brother has lost 90 pounds. He is right at 6' maybe and was 286 and is now down to 195 by pure diet and exercise. No trendy diet or anything crazy. Just portion control and cutting out junk.
Pretty amazing transformation to see.
