In honor of the Triple Crown - what's the most you ever won on a horse bet?

My first bet ever on a horse race ($8 bet) won me nearly $400. It was at the OTB when it was in BR. My roommate was a F/B manager and his bartender's dad owned a long shot, running at Delta Downs. I bet a $2 Quinella with it and the favorite and one with the second favorite. I bet $2 to win (25-1) and a $2 exacta with it winning and the second favorite to come second.
It came in first with the second favorite coming in second.
Granted at the time, I had no idea what I was doing, even knew what exactas and quinellas were. I was like, "This is easy!"
$$$$
When I was a para-mutual, I use to bet $10 on long shots to show. It was during the Arkansas Derby. Mike Smith was on the favorite. Somebody at the track be $1M for him to show. He came in 4th, so all the show payments were out of the world. My horse paid some where around $40 to show.

$20 at the fairgrounds in Nola

About $800 on a $20 bet. That's unusual for me, most of my picks usually are low odds, but this was a what the hell kind of situation. I happened to meet the trainer some time later, and he said he didn't even know the horse was going to run that well that day.

At the old Evangeline Downs, probably $300 or so on a single race.
I would wager $3 Exacta boxes with 3 to 4 horses on all ten races. Only once did I not not make enough to cover eating & drinking for the night with a little leftover.
It was a lot of work though. I'd get the Daily Racing Form the day before and work through every race and every horse Then show up at the track ready to go.
It's actually how I paid for my wedding ring and first washer & dryer set.

I had just returned from a deployment to Afghanistan and my wife and I were in LA visiting family.
Ended up at Evangiline Downs and there was a horse running with "Afghanistan" or "Afghan" in its name - can't remember the exact name.
Anyway- he was 12-1 to win so I dropped $20 on him. He came in second but the winner was disqualified for interference so I won $240.
That's the only horse race I've ever bet on.
I know - CSB

i rarely bet tri's, but
sitting at fairmount park betting simucast, i hit a tri at fairgounds for 3K.
they took the winner down and put him last, which gave me the win, exacta, and tri.
later that night, i had $25 on a horse at Sam Houston who paid $125.00 to win. He had beat the same level claimers 3 races back, then got crushed against higher level claimers and was not bet. He was 15/1 in book. Exacta paid $750
Had 2 exactas that paid $1200 Lemon drop kid in belmont with vision and verse and one at Thistledown. The thistledown was one crazy, because it was a 12/1 on top of a 30/1. The pay out was a huge overlay on what it should pay.
I also lost 2500 in one day out there, so for every cheery story, there is a gloomy one.

I'm not privy to the details, but my uncle won about $30,000 a few years ago.

$2 ,200.00 at OTB when it was off Corporate where Sullivan's is. Caught Calvin Borel on what looked like a nag, but I didn't believe it. Great work outs recently....I figured they had retrained horse as closer.....and I was right....came from the clouds and won by a nose over another long shot

I bet a buddy of mine that this horse wouldn't kick him if he stood directly behind it. I lost.

I make tiny bets so I don't usually make much, but a few years ago in the juvenile fillies I boxed she's a tiger and Ria Antonia. Came in that order but Ria was put up first after an inquiry. I think I made close to $500 for my $1 box. Got new brakes

Boxed a tri the year smarty jones won the derby, for a $6 bet, I think I won a little over $500. I haven't won anything considerable since.

I hit the superfecta in the Belmont last year when California chrome lost. Bet was $100 paid $8,900

I was at track sitting next to coach of blackhawks, coach Q. He loves the ponies, and he had the super when monarchos won.
think it paid 64K for the $2 bet.
And we were at fairmount during afternoon betting, and Eddie O(NBC hockey guy), hit a tri for 15K. They said on telecast he recently hit a pick 6 for over 250K???.
Eddie O can handicap the ponies. He's pretty good.
I don't bet tri's or supers, so if i dont hit a big exacta or horse at odds, i'm mainly cashing tickets on horses that are 4/1-5/1. So those big wins are far and few between.

Won $6500 at Fairgrounds one Saturday afternoon in college with my dad. A good day.

Won about $20 at Evangeline. Won another $40 on nickel slots in the casino there. Drank $60 worth of beer, broke even.

A little of 5,000 on a trifecta. Can't remember the year but it was on the Derby. Me and few guys put in and I place the bets, we've done pretty well. This year we hit the Derby again but the payout was low.

I don't watch horse racing. It reminds me too much of my sex life.
It lasts two minutes and costs me $100.
