I had one in high school. I was working at a grocery store sacking groceries, taking them out to cars, getting carts in from parking lot, etc. One day I was getting carts in, and rolled one over the ingrown toe nail. I saw stars and hit the ground it hurt so bad.

Went to the doctor the next day to get it cut out. He cut about half my toe nail off. The shot to deaden the nerve hurts like a sumbitch as we

It takes 20 minutes and a week to heal. I had one done a month ago. Instant relief.

Really? Right now getting the nail
Cut out doesn’t sound too bad

The surgery I had for mine was the worst pain I ever felt.

Yeah I may have to go to the doctor and get that done

I tried all the homemade solutions others have mentioned. Didn't work for me.

How does this happen?

Trimming them too short and rounding them off at the ends.

Dr. can cut it out and then treat the nail bed with a chemical that prevents it from growing back.

Same. A few years ago when I was running a lot I would get them really often. 3 or 4 times I had to go to a podiatrist and get them cut out

Here is what I have-

Clean the area, then use the clipper to make a vertical cut a deep as you can stand, then use some pliers to pull out the side that was digging in.

I had in grown toenails in both toes at the same time. Had to go to the doctor to get them treated. The treatment consisted of sticking a long needle in both toes 6 times to deaden them, which hurt like hell, and then cut off half my toenails on each toe. I never want to go through that again.

It was so deep into my toe I couldn’t dig it out. It had gotten so bad that it quit growing laterally and had curved and started growing down into the toe. There was no home remedying that shite.

Mine was the same way. Calling what they do a surgery is what's funny. They just have the good numby juice to painlessly cut away 1/3 of your toenail.

I've found that if you take something to reduce the inflammation and take it easy, you can ride it out. They go away after a day or two.

I suffered with them on BOTH feet in HS, but was too much of a pussy just to go to the doctor to get the easy "surgery" to get them taken care of.

I tried all of the home remedies. Nothing fully worked and my toes became grossly infected for months. It was disgusting. There were more than a few occasions while practicing football someone would step on my toes. It was one of the worst "football" injuries I had. The immediate pain was worse than a sprained knee or dislocated shoulder (had both). I would gut it out during practice, only to take off my cleats to find half of my sock completely covered in blood. Eventually, my mom got tired of washing bloody socks and watching me limp around. She forced me to get the "surgery".

Thank God she did. The "worst" part is the two numbing shots in my toe...and those didn't really hurt. The whole procedure lasted about 10 minutes. The doc cut out the ingrown toenail and killed the root permanently. I've never had an ingrown toenail since.

If you can soak the foot in epson salt and cut it out on your own, that's great. But if it gets infected it is a disgusting, terrible experience. So if home "surgery" doesn't work, RUN to the doc for the quick procedure. It is worth it!

I have a buddy that broke both his big toes two different times when he was a kid. They are all kinds of fricked. He got ingrown toe nails all the time in his teens and early twenties. He gets a pedicure once a week and hasn't had an ingrown toe nail in 6 years.

Ain't that the truth. Best I ever had done was in the military. One shot behind the toenail and cut it out.

Jesus! What kind of sadistic doc did you see? I had two quick shots on my toe (not in the nail bed). It was nothing.
