Wow. You can just feel the internal turmoil of the artist in this one. His brooding nature, my goodness. This painting just screams societal burdens and a false sense of reality we all carry.

Would sell my left nut and a kidney just to be in the same room as this painting.

It's all because they were the first to popularize a certain artistic revolution/design.

Pretty simple.

There can only be one first who spawns many imitators. In each of these cases the artist was either the first to debut a certain artistic design never seen before or they were the first artist to make a design popular or critically important.

Wow. So deep.

I love the last one because it symbolizes the despair of individualism caused by societal pressures and expectations in modern America.

Some people look at those paintings and ask WHY. I look at those paintings and ask WHY NOT.

A master painting is no different than the 1st Ferrari or Corvette to come off an assembly line. The value is in the importance and rarity.

nope nope nope. its like asking if there's more value in a pound of gold or a 2016 lamborghini.

with the car i can enjoy the best of man's intellectual excellence.

with the gold..i just have to take someone's word for it that its worth something and they want to pay lots of money for that heavy rock i'm holding.

I will never understand it. I would rather hang a panoramic shot of Tiger Stadium in my hallway before any of that.
