I was reading this article(can't find it) that unless the south's interstates are fixed, we will be looking at nightmarish super metro connecting all the southern cities, where travel will be an absolute mess.

I find this to be a very horrible prospect. Will we be looking 2 average hour work commutes? How is that even remotely productive? I'm not wasting 4 hours of my day just to travel to work. I'll just find a way to work at home and run a business online.

No.

Do you honestly think a project of that magnitude could be planned, funded, constructed, and useable in 30 years? That ain't how the government works. Maybe 300 years

Yeah we'll probably spend 90% of our waking time driving or being at work. Sucks but it's coming and there's nothing you can do about it.

If you are still working in 30 years that sucks.

I have every intention to work for about the next 50 years, but won't be near an interstate. I hope to be helping my son teach my grandson how to farm in about 50 years.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

What does this even mean? "Fixed"?

I drive between New Orleans and Raleigh, through Birmingham, Atlanta, Charlotte, every few months. Driving through South Carolina is the worst part of it because the worst drivers seem to congregate there. Dont have any other real issue with the drive.

This article sounds dumb as f. Sounds like this "nightmarish super metro" will be something that resembles the northeast? A) It would probably take much longer than 30 years for that to happen and B) alternative transportation options would appear if it did.

Once we have cars that can drive themselves, we can work in our cars while they are driving to our office, no lost productivity

Driving in Alabama has been a nightmare for 30 years

Hwy 82 - AL has been working on making it 4 lane from Al the state line to Tuscaloosa for 30 years & still not finished.

Hwy 45 - 4 lane all the way to Kentucky except from AL state line to Mobile.

There was in article about this in the AJC like 20 years ago and in 20 years there will be another portending doom in the next 20 years.

We must raise everyone's taxes by 5% to pay for infrastructure projects.

Why not legalize weed, gambling, and prositution? You could make some serious revenue off of those things.

That drive is already horrible. There is this giant clusterfreak called ATL and its traffic in the middle of it. Also do you really think that the highways won't be fixed in the next 30 years.

It is very probable that 30 years from now the cities will be more popular than the suburbs. The current low gas prices are not going to stay and in 30 years $7/gal could very easily happen.

I have an easy commute. I-10 doesn't get that bad and if there ever is a traffic jam I know all the back roads.
