Westheimer is 4 bums/intersection from gessner into the loop.

I don't know why the city can't pay them to pick up trash or some shite. $5/bag. I guess it is because they'd just go empty dumpsters or find some other way to scam the system.

I love this one. I hate that shite, and it seems like most retailers are pulling it these days.

"Could I get your email?"

"No thanks, I'm good"

"I need it for the computer."

"Really? You need my email to take my money?"

It's just that I think 98% of these people are full of shite.

Here's the thing- these people are usually full of shite about the reason they want money, but they absolutely are destitute. They probably live locally, crashing on someone's couch for a short period. Their only living expense should be food, but almost 100% of the time they will use the money they manage to get on tobacco, booze, and other drugs. They'll move on eventually if/when the well runs dry, but as long as chumps are funding their vagrancy they will maintain a holding pattern and drink deeply from the teet of gullibility/guilt.

One of my friends found himself in a situation where a small group of these bums crashed in his living room for about a month. Scum of the Earth, but they consider themselves akin to modern day "beats" or hippies.

I just tell them "naw man" in as dismissive a tone as I can muster.

It absolutely helps. My typical responses are "Get the frick away from me" or a simple "frick off". So far it's 100% effective.

Precisely.

I don't know how much these guys make at intersections, but I bet they could quickly fill trash bags. Furthermore, if there were a system in place and the public knew about it, the money given out at intersections would probably dry up, and these guys would move on.

I treat panhandlers like I treat wild animals, do not feed them and they will eventually stop coming around. I also tried to avoid areas where I know they frequent, but this is easier for me to do where I live versus a city like BR or NO. My buddy and I came out of a gentlemen's club in Atlanta one night and it was like the walking dead coming from every dumpster on the block asking for money at 2 AM. I thought we were going to get shanked when I told them all my money was in the strippers G string. I did learn a valuable lesson that night, do not skimp on the $10 valet parking at the titty bar in downtown Atlanta.

I used to work for Lowe's and they bitch at you if you don't have close to 100% on your phone numbers. If it someone buying something cheap or if I did ask and they gave me shite about it I'd just key in a random phone number. I can assure they don't like asking for your number anymore than you like giving it to them. A lot of people would just give me the store phone number. Id just type that in and move with my day.

Wave your gun at them. They usually get the point after that. Works like a charm.

Several years ago I stopped at a gas station in Welsh on my way home from the duck camp to fill up my truck.

As I pull up to the pump, there was a woman at the pump in front of my truck putting gas into a Toyota Corolla and crying. She was a white woman in her late forties, dressed decently and not trashy looking, car was in decent shape. So I get out and start pumping my gas and ask her if she's okay. She tells me that her 19 year old daughter who lives with her was injured in a car accident in Slidell and she's going to the hospital to see her. The injuries weren't life threatening, but had several broken bones and such. She had enough money to almost fill her car, but no other money and had been laid off from her job and was a single mother. I topped off her tank with my credit card and gave her a $20. She thanked me profusely and asked where I was from. I told her where I lived and I had a car lot.

About 6 months later, she pulls into my car lot. She had seen and remembered the name of my business from the license plate on the front of my truck and had gotten a new job and was looking for a newer car. She was giving the Corolla to her daughter, and bought a newer Camry from me.

So I got my $20 back with interest.

i just tell them "i only carry plastic" and that usually settles it without issue

one guy i know will see them coming and then approach them and ask them for money before they can ask him

one of the few legit stories I have heard.

In college my gf gave 2 bums $20 at the corner of perkins and college because they had a lab. That night we are walking into a bar around the corner and I see a lab tied up outside...go in and the 2 bums are drinking and playing pool

I bought a guy a sixer once because he asked for a fencepost to get drunk so he could sleep because it was cold and I was in a good mood that day.

They are everywhere in Houston. I saw one get smoked by a car a few months back by Richmond and 610. Don't see her on the corner anymore so guess she didn't make it

They make a pretty good living. They just spend it immediately on booze and drugs. There are plenty of options and ways out for them, they just choose not to go down those avenues. Or in the case of shelters, they either use up or save their days for certain times
