I might troll light-heartedly in dumb threads, but when it comes to twelve step nonsense I'm not trolling and I'm more informed than most.

The stats support me and the lack of research on the side of the twelve steppers is deafening.

Trust me, this is one of like three things I post about in a serious way. It's my SFP circumcision topic.

Not sure, I don't have a chip to remind me.

ETA sorry that was kinda trollish. Don't wanna detract from the actual discussion cause it's important. Sorry again. Serious answer, I'm not sober, I've never tried to get sober but if I ever do I'll seek professional help not a book written by a religious zealot with no psychological training.

AA isnt really about seeking professional help. professional help is something you pay for and most of the time is someone who learned about your condition through texbooks. AA is about people helping people all with the same problem. The people that have been sober for 10 yrs were once in your shoes, but still attend meeting and what not..It's a support system. If you can do it alone then so be it but most people cant

Just do whatever you need to do to put time between you and your last drink. I was able to get sober many years ago with the help of AA. Many may say that it's a cult or a clique. It is what you make it.

Hearing other people's stories was good for me. I was able to connect with many of them. You may not find your exact story, but I would guess that you will relate to a lot of them. Maybe I would have gotten sober without AA, but I can tell you that it worked for me. If something else works for you, good luck. But I suggest that you give AA a try.

I am not as active in AA now as I was almost 20 years ago, but I know that if I have the urge to go back to the insanity that was my drinking, I can go back any time and I will get what I need to keep me sober.

Best wishes.

if you have never tried to get sober then why are you commenting on getting sober? I have never scuba dived.... so I don't give advice on spear fishing in the gulf. However, I listen and ask questions to my brother, who has hundreds of times, to get tips should that day come.

Yeah there is no religion in AA. The only place it tells you to seek power from is a God of your understanding not the people in AA. If he read the book he clearly misunderstood it.

This is a blacklivesmatter tactic. An objective look at facts is dismissed because someone can't understand things from your perspective. Good job. So you wanna discuss the actual program or just tell people they don't understand?

From my experience, no one can do it alone. I know i couldnt. But relating to other people who did the same things i was doing helped me. They told me what they did to stop, but not only stop, but how to see myself and what i was doing wrong. In a non judgemental way.

I live a better, happier life now. Not only because i quit drinking, but because i live life with a better outlook.

So what dog do you have in the fight?

I went to a meeting tonight. Several people with several years of sobriety there. Should I let them know the program doesn't work? Or should I let them continue believing the lies?

You don't have facts. You have "studies" that show that people that drop out of the program don't stay sober. Those of us with real experience see it working everyday.

ETA: Its pretty clear you haven't read the book. And it's pretty clear you have an agenda for whatever reason. I'm not saying AA is the only way to get sober. But it is one way. And it's helped millions.

I've never had cancer but if I have a loved one who gets cancer and decided to pray the tumor away rather than get help, I'll have a strong opinion about it.

Likely when you dry out you'll have to change your screen name to Mr. Used To Be Fun.
