Tech Board. You will also need to tell them what you intend to use it for and your budget.

Mirrorless, dslr...etc?

It's for my wife. She likes taking pictures. I'm looking for something entry to mid level. No point and shoot. I have no idea what mirrorles is.

For circle jerks, arseinclass breaking news, and WYHI. We have too many boards.

Mirrorless is kind of like a hybrid between a point & shoot and a DSLR. It does have changeable lenses like a DSLR.

You can get a very nice DSLR body pretty cheat ($300-$800). The main costs in DSLRs are the lenses.

You cannot go wrong with a Cannon or Nikon body. Start off with the kit lenses and go up from there.

I have a $800 body and a $300 body, but I have $3500+ in lenses and other accessories.

It can be a very expensive and addictive hobby.

Thanks for the suggestions. Is there a best time to buy one? Do they typically go on sale on Black Friday or Christmas?

The ones I see on Black Friday are usually the ones on the way out the door because of the ever changing features on cameras. A cheap body is OK, but you are getting what you paid for.

The difference between my $300 body and my $800 is so great, it would take forever to list here. The biggest thing is the better quality sensor in my $800 body.

One good thing about it being for your wife, you don't have to worry about what to get her for birthday/anniversary/Christmas gifts anymore. If she is serious, new camera equipment is always wanted.

Unlike bodies, lenses don't change too much and are good for years. Bodies are out of date about every 5 years, because of the ever changing equipment (just like computers and smart phones).

Love my Rebel T3i and they always have good deals on bundling the body with a couple lenses on Amazon.
