Capable of doing some extraordinary things, but more often settles for that which is well under their own abilities.
Has potential to lead to greatness, but more often is found leading people into bondage in a lust for power over their fellow man.
Wants so much to be free, but is so easily persuaded to follow others instead.
Loves to talk a good game, but doing it is more often a different story, and content with talking about it.
Spends most of their life worrying about and in preparation for a future they have no control over than living the life they have in the present that they can control.

From an objective standpoint, I don't think you can view humanity as anything other than creative, resourceful and ambitious.
The species is the undisputed master of its world and is constantly pushing the envelope of its technology and understanding of the universe.
Humans are also, without a doubt, an incredibly dangerous species, with a talent for warfare. Objectively speaking, fricking around with humans is a really, really bad idea. If you do, you better make sure you kill them all, because they will not stop until your whole homeworld is turned to ash.

A developing species still ruled overall by petty self interest or in many instances, outright savagery.

A tourist came in from Orbitville, parked in the air, and said: The creatures of this star are made of metal and glass. Through the transparent parts you can see their guts. Their feet are round and roll on diagrams or long measuring tapes, dark with white lines. They have four eyes. The two in the back are red. Sometimes you can see a five-eyed one, with a red eye turning on the top of his head. He must be special -the others respect him and go slow when he passes, winding among them from behind. They all hiss as they glide, like inches, down the marked tapes. Those soft shapes, shadowy inside ...

What kind of alien are we? Are we the ones from Independence Day, Oblivion, etc. and just see humans as a minor obstacle to steal resources? Are we peaceful voyagers in search of a new planet to call home after ours blew up? Are we south park aliens that just steal people to stick shite up their a-hole? Need more info...
