You guys do realize this is the correct answer but you have to qualify it with "unless I just feel like it".

If I could drop everything, I would be so happy.

What do you mean "drop everything". You are a kid in college. You don't even have a job.

I didn't work for a loooong time. I'd rather work part time and volunteer. I'm much happier now doing that.

The grass is already greener

I would work by conducting select history tours in NOLA for rich clientele, between traveling and golf

I do this already while I'm waiting to get clearance to go to work. It's safe to say I would do it if I didn't have to.

I did this for a month in between jobs. I hope that's what retirement is like.

I don't want to really "drop everything". I want to be a good dad. I don't quite know how I'm gonna do it by myself, but I'll get the chance to try.

I don't want to "retire", I want to do something I love and that doesn't rob me of my soul.

I'd get a boat and become a charter fisherman. Hire a staff to do all the dirty work and just fish on the nice days.

Any competitive athlete should take up golf after they finish with their playing days. It gives you something to compete with and its oddly relaxing.

As fun as it sounds, you have to deal with a lot of assholes who have more money than common sense.

Would the lack of a "job" sap the purpose from your life and slowly but surely kill you?

I'm retired and I am fairly sure I will die someday, but the lack of a job won't do it.

I am re-evaluating my purpose in life now that I don't have the job I held for 36 years (not to mention the years before that of working in the same field), but I am happy just being. I do some volunteer work, hang out with a good friend, write my blog (sporadically of late), read a lot, and sort of kind of try to get my house organized.

My husband was retired for a year and then got offered another job which he snapped up. He needs to be busy to be happy, me not so much.

This would have been my answer if I was a single man.

I need purpose to be happy, not so much a "Job"

Used to feel like this, but now being happy is kind of my purpose. I don't need any more accomplishments to feel fulfilled, think my hobbies would be enough for me.

Well, if all else fails, your purpose can be to serve as a bad example.
