Soft checks do not count against your credit. Hard checks can not be done without your permission.

A hard inquiry doesn't affect your credit that much.

You should be more worried about how someone got enough of your info to perform the check and the subsequent LOC they opened and will commit fraud with

Right. I'm kind of curious what the other details of this situation are. Sounds like a possible identity theft danger, but we don't know practically any details either.

If they are reputable you can place a dispute to have the pull removed. If they aren't you have to dispute with the bureaus which isn't worth your time. Assuming you don't have trashy credit your score will recover from the pull in the next 2 months

It was a hard check. A dealership did it when I told them not to. I asked them to give me an appraisal on my vehicle and that was it. I had plans and left a dealership and asked them to call me with what the appraisal would be and they called and told me my appraisal and what car payments would be if I bought the car I was looking at. And I was wondering how they gave me exact numbers for how much the payment would be for 60 months and 72 months. So I just checked my credit and they did a hard hit. I told them before I left dealership, both the dealer and the manager, to not run a credit check unless I agree to buy the car. I wanted to know my appraisal before I decided to do anything. They both said they would not run my credit.
And also, they had me fill out a paper with my info just in case I would tell them over the phone that I would take the car. So they could do paperwork and have it done when I came back. They said they wouldn't put in any info unless I agreed to buy the car. And I told them, do NOT run a credit check and both of them said they wouldn't.

wrong, if you have loans/credit cards with companies, they can do hard checks.

I am losing points because a company i have a loan with checks it every 3 months, they want me to borrow more money. I tell them no dice, but they check it, then call me back in 3 months asking if i want to borrow more cash at a better rate.

The Credit Score system is extremely flawed, which is why there is an investigation into their scores and rankings. Majority of their negative points have zero to do with credit, and nothing to look down on.

I left both of them A nasty text, and said I would go to someone higher about it. Left them a nasty review too.

The bad thing is it hurt my credit and I'm in the red now. Now I won't feel comfortable buying a car

Ah. Well that stinks.

Dispute it with the three bureaus.

If you are shopping for cars then multiple hard pulls within a limited time frame won't tank your credit.

"Shopping around" is understood and you would probably get your credit pulled anyways so it isn't that big of a deal to have one extra inquiry assuming you buy a car relatively soon

I'm sorry sir, but if you filled out a credit application they have written proof that allowed them to pull your credit and submit it to lenders. The rest is their word against yours. You should not have filled out any paperwork, and particularly given out you social security number, if you were so adamant.

That sounds pretty sketchy. I think that they have to be breaking some kind of terms.

That's pretty shitty and underhanded. The kind of dishonest bull shite that seems typical for dealerships to pull. As others have said you can try reporting it to the 3 agencies, but I probably wouldn't even bother. One hard check isn't a big deal. I probably would just be more careful about giving out my info in the future.

They didn't say anything was a credit app. They took my info. I didn't write down my info.

3 bureaus I meant. Sorry, wrong terminology by me. Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. They're the ones that track this stuff.
