If Britain were a US state it would be second poorest ahead of only Mississippi.

This kind of surprised me, based on per capita GDP. LINK
UK article link above is based on

Ranking(Countries in bold):
Alaska
Wyoming
North Dakota
Connecticut
Delaware
New York
Massachusetts
Norway
New Jersey
Nebraska
Washington
Texas
Maryland
Minnesota
California
Illinois
Colorado
Oregon
South Dakota
Louisiana
Virginia
Switzerland
Iowa
Hawaii
New Hampshire
Rhode Island
Pennsylvania
Kansas
Wisconsin
Ohio
Utah
Indiana
North Carolina
Nevada
Oklahoma
Vermont
Missouri
Georgia
Tennessee
New Mexico
Michigan
Sweden
Montana
Germany
Arizona
Kentucky
Maine
West Virginia
Idaho
South Carolina
Arkansas
Florida
Euro Area
Alabama
United Kingdom
Mississippi

I don't know why the article says Britain and then lists the UK...but I w/e. I thought it was interesting but GDP per capita is a pretty poor measurement too

If the offer is to trade a state for the UK, Alabama would be the correct choice. Throw in Fulton County Georgia if necessary and get the deal done.

there's just no way this is true. If the UK were a state it would have the benefits that Mississippi has and would jump way up the list.

I mean London by itself, even if the rest of the country is a drain (which it isn't) blows Mississippi out of the water.

From the EU's website:
quote:

The euro area consists of those Member States of the European Union that have adopted the euro as their currency. Today, around 330 million citizens in 18 countries live in the euro area, and this number will increase as future enlargements of the euro area continue to spread the benefits of the single currency more widely in the European Union.
