I am assuming it is because the last time something similar happened it affected air travel for months. Presumably that would affect air traffic related to Ukraine activities as well.

It sounds terrible, but what is really wild about it? Nothing seemed to move as a result.

What you're hearing are the sounds of a magma channel forming under, or very near to, that house. That's lava, molten rock, eating away at the ground beneath the house/city as it flows beneath the surface. There's a very real possibility that a volcanic fissure could open up anywhere along that channel.

The sounds are spooky or wild not because of the immediate damage associated with them, but for what they could bring. It is sort of like the sounds the Graboids made in Tremors before one eventually burst through the surface of the Earth to snack on some poor redneck who couldn't stay still.

The magma channel and the potential associated fissure are the reason the city of Grindavic was evacuated.

They had a chance to fix this issue but they refused to allow Trump to buy the country. Now they are screaming for Trump to Make Iceland Great Again.

Well, you may be in luck. Etna is currently going off, Vesuvius is actually overdue based on its history, and apparently seismic activity around Mt St Helen’s has picked up, though the latter is still considered background levels.

When you think you’ve heard everything after riding out a couple of hurricanes and other shite. Damn weird sounding.

I will take a hurricane over an earthquake or a volcanic blast.

At least with a hurricane, I have days of preparation/anticipation built up. With an earthquake, I could have little to no warning on the next big one. Volcanic eruptions have gotten a little more predictable, as in we know it is about blow but we don’t know if it will be right now or in the next few months. Unfortunately, that level of anxiety would drive me nuts and broke if I had to evacuate.

Legit coulda been me. I spent a night in Grindavik last month. The blue lagoon is at the epicenter of activity right now.

Wonder if it’ll turn to acid like that lake in the movie Dante’s Peak does

A friend of mine is flying to Iceland tomorrow and had to cancel her blue lagoon visit but is going to a different spa place elsewhere on the island

Hope it doesn’t get too bad up there

I have to say, seeing peeps walking around those smoking cracks, not sure I would do that. Seems needlessly like tempting fate. Too easy to fall through and I don't really want to test how quickly one stops caring about being steamed alive, let alone fall into magma.

Biggest thing I would be worried about would be a repeat of the volcanic eruption which threw so much ash in the air that it shut down most transatlantic flights for quite a while.

Very nice place to visit from what I understand but I wouldn’t want to be stuck there way after I wanted to leave due to volcanic or tectonic issues.
