There are already six of these in Bossier Parish. There will be 40.

It is another shakedown. "Won't bother me, I have insurance." Well, once they figure out the no-insurance money people have no money to pay these "civil penalties." They will then turn to other things.

Why this does not have everyone in an uproar is beyond me. This is big brother at its finest.

This is the simpleton's answer. If everyone had insurance, they'd turn the cameras to something else. Eventually, they'll get you and me for something.

3000 tickets a month are written in my parish, and it is all a revenue grab. It has little to do with public safety.

I hope someone gets pissed and takes the cameras out.

What really pissed me off is that this is some private company that contracts "at no charge" to the governmental entity. The mixing of private business with criminal justice is a huge crock.

I got involved in a hit and run years ago so I'm good with it. Only thing I don't like about living in St. Gabriel is we are the only town on this side of the river when all of iberville parish is on the other side of the river. St. Gabriel should be a part of East Baton Rouge or Ascension Parish.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department does not need to put out "traps" to generate more revenue. They are well funded. I can assure you people not having drivers insurance is a bigger issue than them trying to generate revenue.

If they wanted to generate revenue, they could do so without even having to purchase this equipment. I'd rather them catch people with no insurance than worrying about people with expired inspection stickers. When a driver doesn't have insurance and they cause a wreck, it actually affects people.

To let the free market work its wonders?

Why is govt subsidizing the insurance business by forcing citizens to buy a product?

Obamacare must be popular where you are I suppose.

Yeah, go check to see how broke Iberville Parish is.

Dow, Shintech, Axiall, the plants in St. Gabriel alone could support Iberville parish financially.

Their workers support the rolling toll booths in St. Gabriel as well.

Every government entity gobbles up money, they never have enough money. This also is patronage at its best - a private company makes money off the c.j. system. They are doing this in Bossier Parish, 6 in place, and it is clear it is a revenue grab.

These systems where some private company does it "at no cost" are ripe for corruption.

And, the no insurance types won't pay anyway. So, they'll find some other way to make money from this because that private company must make money from this.

If you get a ticket in Iberville Parish, it will likely be by one of the "city" police. Plaquemine, White Castle, St. Gabriel, Grosse Tete, Maringouin.

Each town is funded by the parish, the amount they get is based on their population. If you are in the city limits of any of those places, you are more likely going to get a ticket if you are speeding or doing anything they can stop you for. But the Sheriffs department actually has other shite to worry about and don't just send units out to stop people.

If they needed revenue, they could put a unit between plaquemine and white castle as well as right before the Iberville/Ascension line on the westside.. And stop people nonstop.

We need to kick Iberville's arse back across the mighty Mississippi. Why do they think they get a little piece of land east of the river?

So they can have a ferry

The company that makes the cameras will be getting a cut of the fines collected, so they were given to the Parish.

Other Mississippi River ferries go between two parishes across the river. For example the past St Francisville ferry.

the DMV already knows who has and who doesn't have insurance on cars. Why doesn't the DMV give towing companies access to that info and give them the ability to impound cars...
