A Harvard Student Told Jeff Bezos Something No CEO Wants to Hear

The Amazon IPO was in 1997 and if you had put $10K into the IPO that $10K investment would be worth roughly $20 million today

An arrogant Harvard business student in the late 90s?

I imagine he’s doing just fine.

You bet Sears is kicking themselves that they did not change with technology. They were the kings of order and pickup, just needed to add delivery services.

Now he’d be kicked out for not using proper pronouns and not giving his privileged business to a non cis minority.

Harvard arrogance and stupidity isn't new, especially among a student body that comes from elite private school backgrounds. Affluent and well trained.

Well, for the graduate student's sake, Bezos was just selling books at the time.

You think if he were still selling just books today, Amazon would be the same? Who knows?

During the .com craze, Howard Stern use to tell people to invest in Amazon, and I use to think, how is an online bookstore going to make it? It's too bad I didn't listen to him back then.

This thread got me to wondering where Bezos went to college and what his major was.

He graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in a double major, electrical engineering and computer science. Not bad...

He always intended to move beyond books. He just picked books as a readily available and prolific (tons of choices) proof of concept item. He didn't want people to know what he was doing too soon into the game.*

*Source - I used to be friends with his VP of Business Development. He was there from shortly after the start up until the beginnings of the real blow up. He ducked out with $30 million in stock options. He should have stayed and he would be a billionaire.

IN their defense, at that time Amazon was only selling books and losing shite tons of money.

Bezos expanded and the rest is history.

Now they're a cloud and data services company with a side gig in retail.

Begs the question, as always: what or who is going to be the next Amazon/Bezos?
